Question about Polaroid FDM-0700A 7 in. TV/DVD Combo
Hi, my question is, I had this polaroid 7inch tv/dvd combo, made to be mounted under my cabit. Well, i can hear the sound when the tv is on, but the picture is very dark. I can see the picture very little, but very dark. Could you tell me what is wrong with it? radio works and sound when the tv is on works, but Picture is very dark and I tried turning up brightness and all that.
I owned the under the counter since jan 07 and the same problem. Called poloroid and they said the warranty is only for 3 months. Since I purchased it on ebay they said i have no warranty since i purchased it through a 3rd party. they said they would replace the tv for $60. plus s&h. WOW SOME COMPANIES JUST DON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. CRAP PRODUCT DON'T BUY IT.

The dark screen problem with most of these units is due to a failure of the backlight inverter board. It is poorly designed, and sending the unit back to the manufacturer will only get you another unit that will also eventually fail. Also, replacing the bad chip on existing inverter boards will also only result in a short-term fix. I have purchased a number of these units (9) on eBay and replaced the inverter board with a different unit made by a reliable inverter manufacturer. A year later, all of the units are still operating.
Unfortunately, the replacement board does not have the same connectors and pinouts as the original, so it is something that must be done in a shop by an experienced technician. I am hesitant to post the instructions as it is a little tricky and the output of the unit is 900 volts. It would be dangerous for someone unfamiliar with this technology to do it on their own. I will look into the policies of this site and see if I can post my contact information so that owners of these units can send them for repair.

Your problem sounds like a backlight issue. The back light circuit can be a dangerous thing to work on as theres a hi voltage converter inside beleive it or not. its like a floresent tube transformer but really small. This is probably something you woulnt want to tackle unless you have some electronic backgraound. I would contact the manufacturer # listed in your owners manual, or try this one on where to send it for service and an estimate on the repairs. 800-268-6970 Good luck
