If it was thoroughly drenched, indeed bye bye camera, but if it was a shallow pool ... ;] and the wetting is more local, there might be some chance, but don't try turning it on, it might be your downfall. Take to get an estimate. If the water was sugary or salty though, head towards wallmart, or better yet, a nice local small business ;] Good luck!

Sony cybershot dsc w80 wont turn on or retract lens. My camera suddenly stopped working one day, do not recall dropping it, etc. My mother has the same camera and I tried her battery and it still doesnt...

Hello,

From your description, I would say something is stuck inside the lens mechanism of your camera. It could be a grain of sand or any small particle like a piece of fabric from a camera bag.

Hold you camera lens facing the ground and gently - moderately tap it repeatedly. You can also try spraying a compressed air into it.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Wont work with windows live messenger 2009

Try going into the 'audio adn video' options in MSN and tuning the camera and audio.. ie testing it out. You have to choose the camera n stuff.. so you may not have it as default..

Lens Stuck

YOU CANNOT REPAIR THIS SOPHISTICATED CAMERA YOURSELF!!
I guess pushing the lens inside may have made the problem worse.
I follow a rule- if you drop an electronic equipment and a problem occurs- it usually takes a professional repair!
For all you kamow there is a minor problem in the camera, like something stuck inside or something like that. and most certainly you will aggravate the problem by trying to do it yourself..

do post when you get it repaired, for all of us to know what goes wrong when lens gets stuck..
take care

Sears CAlypso

dont see why not, first t hing to do is find out where its leaking from, the fromt panel will need to come off to watch for leak in order to remove that , pop off the medalion on fron lip of the main top assy. ther should be a screw behind the emblem remove the screrw and the top will slide foward and then tio back. a few screws across the top of front panel will drop that panel down adn from ther you ll gain acces to watch unit work adn see where water is coming from

Won't turn on.

Did the camera sustain any damage (dropped, water damage etc)? If not I would check with Canon or the reseller to see if you can return the camera.

As a last resort you could sell the broken camera on Ebay. I know you would get around 80-90 for it. The SD1000s price is dropping now so you could turn around and buy one for around $160.

BIG Problem

I would send it into the repairs center and see if they can fix it. There is nothing that they could tell you to try if you called tech support.
