I have a Toshiba, however, I can press the volume button higher, but as soon as I let go, the volume goes down to zero. Great picture -- no sound. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I have a sharp 27 in, nice picture but the sound went off today. No closed caption or text, mute is off, tried all the suggestions below but still silent.

i realize this is an old post but maybe some one new will see. I recently got a 37" sharp from a relative becouse sound went out. i fooled around with settings and menu and couldn't find anything. so i just hooked up surround sound. while playing my PS3 the tv turned off. when i turned it back on it had sound and been workin for 3 days now. turns out while i was messing with settings i turned on a 3 hour non active option. if the remote or tv hasn't been touched it will turn itself off. I dont know if this will solve anyone elses problem but it worked in my case thus far.

Dear Internets

My co-worker is having a similar problem.
She has a SHARP 26" LCD tv purchased from PC richards, and she says, if you can belive it, that the volume is turned up to 50, but she can barely hear it.
We firmly believe a TV should produce an dequate level of volume with having to hook it up to "surround sound"
Thanking you in advance for any advice!

Check to see if you're getting closed captions. If so it's an indication that mute is actually on somehow. I would check and recheck the cables, replace them. Could be that they only transfer video. Try connecting an external input device such as a DVD player or a camcorder to the front input jacks, on the front face of the TV. If you're getting audio then it's either the cables used or the back panel input jack. That's for the simple fixes. Anything else I would recommend you to take it to a repair shop :[ Good luck
