Re: my microwave runs for 30 seconds and stops
It could be shutting off because of the heat sensor on the magnatron is over heating because of a bad capacitor or diode or the power transformer its self. This is a call for the service man BUT you know these days a microwave like this cost a couple of hundred bucks maybe a little more too. But it will possibly cost 150 or so if not more to fix the average microwave. If you really like it, then see if you can have it estimated BUT its not for the handy man to try to trouble shoot as theres extremly high voltage in these puppys even when they are not plugged in!! Good luck

A quick test. Switch off power then remove outer cover. Look for the transformer. remove the two wires connected to the primary side. Note, do not toutch anything else. power still sitting on the cap. With those two thin wires disconnected, make sure they are not toutching each other or leaning on the metal frame. Set a program that has been a problem and let it run. If it still stops and does what its not supposed to do, your board needs replacement.
Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.
We had this happen to us tonight. We unplugged the microwave oven for 15 seconds and then plugged it in, but it the fan was still running. We then unplugged it for 30 minutes and the fan worked properly when we plugged it in again.
