DARK HORIZON AREA AT TOP OF SCREEN

HELP, I TURNED OFF MY TV ONE NIGHT AND IT WAS FINE I WOKE UP THE NEXT DAY AND THERE WAS A DARKEN AREA AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN THAT EXTENDED FROM ONE SIDE TO THE NEXT AND THEN THE DARK AREA DIPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN, NOW THE PICTURE IMAGE IS DISTORTED, THERE ARE DUPLICATE IMAGES AND EACH IMAGE HAS A DIFFERENT COLOR, THE NUMBER THAT DISPLAYS TO SHOW WHAT CHANNEL THE TELEVISION IS ON, NOW HAS BEEN DUPLICATED. WHEN THE SET IS DISPLAYING AN IMAGE THE DARKENED AREA TAKES ON A YELLOWISH COLOR I DO BELIEVE. THE SOUND IS OK AND YOU CAN MAKE OUT THE IMAGE IT IS JUST REALLY DISTORTED WITH THE "DUPLICATE IMAGES" THAT IS THE ONLY WAY i KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE IT. ITS LIKE THE MAIN IMAGE HAS 1-2 HALOS OF ITS SELF THEREBY GIVING A BLURRED APPEARANCE, I CANNOT AFFORD A NEW SET "56 INCH SAMSUNG". PLEASE HELP THANKS IN ADVANCE

    TV is Samsung HCN4226WX/XAC

    Exactly the same problem.
Tried to resolve by (1) turning TV on and off; (2) unplugging power and then reconnecting power; (3) perfecting image function tried.

I had an almost identical problem -- a very dark bar along one side. There was a tiny bit of image there, but it was like looking through a strip of very dark glass. I did not have duplicate images or funny colors. Samsung replaced the light engine under Best Buy's (their Magnolia subsidiary's, actually) extended warranty, and everything was perfect again.

The technician said that there is a felt-like lining in the light engine to prevent unwanted reflections from stray light, and that the adhesive that holds it comes loose allowing it to block the light from hitting the edge of the screen, resulting in the dark bar.
