Thanks for the help guys! I've got the reciever to turn on by plugging it into a switched outlet and flipping the switch a couple times to reset it. Now when I turn it on, I only get clear audio in stereo mode. In surround mode or with any equalizer setting besides flat, all I hear is a buzzing noise. Anyone more help would be great. Thanks!

I had the same problem, standby light on but no response from the unit. I tried the posted solution of holding the power button down while unplugging and plugging back the unit. Guess what?? IT WORKED. Thanks buddy, u just made my day :)

I had the "red light on but unit won't power up" problem. It's been sitting in the box for over a year and I just found this site. I took the unit out of the box held the power button down and then plugged the unit in and presto! It now works again! Woohoo! Started working on the very first try. I've had this system for quite some time and this is the only problem I have had with it. This baby is going back to work!

Red standby light comes on. When I press the power button, I hear a click and then the light goes off. I've tried holding the button down and then turning the device on but that doesnt work either. Perhaps there is a defective part inside?

I took your advice I unpluged the unit then held the power button in then pluged it back into power outlet the unit came on. There is one thing I might add I had to do it twice before the unit came on. Now how long will it work? Who knows

Mine does that when the power goes out. Just unplug it for like 2 minutes and plug back in, maybe able to do it faster I'm not certain on the time it takes for the capacitors to discharge but after they do, plug it back in and it should come on no problem.

The Best thing I can advise you on with this one my friend is to unplug the unit a few hours or even overnight. Come back and plug it in to see if the unit just had to reset???. If same thing then your gonna need to find out where to take it unless your a service tech and then I would first start to measure voltages in the power supply then checkout the main Microprocessor circuit. There should be somewhere to contact a servicer or repair depot in your user manuel. If not try this link https://www.rca.com/secure/service/contactrca/1,,,00.html Good luck

Somebody left one of these on the side of the street for the trash to come pick it up. I figured what the heck if I can't get to work then I'll just toss it to. But I did the hold power button unplug and plug in and I have a free receiver.
Thanks.

Just found this solution on another site, and it worked for mine. When you just have the standby light and no display, hold the power button down while you unplug it and plug it back in, it may take 2 or 3 attempts, but it will turn on.

No Power From My Reciever

Mook_trakzz, your device is most likely roasted and ready or scrap. Sorry.

Guest, check if the cables are connected properly, specially the cable between the device and the sub is quite easily shifted thus losing your sound.

timtlc, seems you have had some powerfailure during that night, you can try to remove the powercable for at least 15 seconds, that should reset the device.

to all, information from Philips on this device:
  • Press the STANDBY ON button on the front of the DVD system to turn on the power.
If the device powers on at the unit and not the remote, the unit may have been turned off with TV selected as the source on the remote. The standby button on the remote will operate most Philips TV’s when TV is selected as the source. Change the source to disc or any other source than TV on the remote.
  • To completely reset the player, unplug the AC cord from the AC outlet for 15 seconds.

Sudden failure to power up

I've had this happen a number of times with my receiver. This trick from the Troubleshooting guide in the owner's manual usually does the trick: To reset If an unusual condition in the display window or malfunction occurs, reset the unit as follows. 1 Press the POWER button to turn off the power. 2 Press the POWER button while pressing the ENTER button. Everything stored in memory after purchase is canceled. If the power cannot be turned off in step 1 because of a malfunction, reset by disconnecting the AC cord and carry out step 2.
