Nomad Creative Zen Xtra

New battery will not charge. Player works fine plugged into in. Remove the electric power cord and the player shuts off.

You might have a bad "New" battery....after you have charged it can you take it out and use a multimeter to see if it has a charge? If its not taking a charge its one of two thing....either you "New" battery is bad or the Zen is bad and is not transferring power to charge the battery...if its the Zen then I would send it back under the warranty.....You can pick up an inexpensive multimeter at your local RadioShack to check both....Good Luck and let me know if this helped

When it the zen is turned on it says firmware

Had the same problem and nearly went nuts trying to fix it. Here's what I did:

1. Uninstall all creative driver & creative software.
2. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 (Rolled back to WMP 10) and restarted PC.
3. Uninstalled Windows Media Player 11 Runtime and restarted PC.
4. Downloaded and Installed the latest free version of Winamp from http://www.winamp.com
5. Connected my A/C Power Cord to my Nomad Jukebox then connected my Nomad Jukebox via USB cable to the Computer.

The computer should then recognize the Nomad Jukebox as "Found New Hardware" then "MTP Device" and lastly "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.

6. If you haven't already, go to the creative website and download the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03 and save it to your computer.
7. Run the Firmware (Make sure Nomad Jukebox is connected) and at this point the Computer should recognize the Nomad Jukebox and begin the upgrade.

After your upgrade is complete, You can go ahead and re-download Windows Media Player 11 and it will recognize the Nomad Jukebox. Not sure what version of windows you have, but I have two computers, one with windows xp and the other has windows 7 and Im able to transfer music perfectly fine with Windows Media Player and RealPlayer on both computers. I hope this works for you. Good Luck!

My zen jukebox turns off then on and I just replaced and charged a new battery

Take out the battery. Plug it in. Does it play reliably?

Yes: That's a bad battery.

No: reset the device, and try above again.

Mp3 won't charge

The same thing happened to me- I have a Creative Zen that I hadn't used in a few months. If the mp3 player has not been used for a long time the battery will be depleted. You will need to plug in the mp3 player for a long time- hours - see this website for details: http://193.95.171.83/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=681,E=0000000000253119896,K=1892,Sxi=19,Case=obj(28137),Kb=ww_english_add,VARSET=ws:http://us.creative.com/
