Make sure you spelled your password correctly. Make sure the caps is on of off depending on your password. Try closing out yahoo messenger and restarting the application. If that does not work reboot your machine. If that does not work uninstall your messenger then reinstall it. If that does not work contact yahoo for further assistance.

here are some causes: Firstly; this error occurs when your connection preferences are not properly set. I'm not talking about your Yahoo! ID and Password here, but you may need to adjust certain features depending on what network you're on. Let's says for example, if a firewall protects your network, it may block yahoo messenger when it tries to connect to the server. You need to change your connection settings, click the Messenger menu in yahoo messenger and select Connection Preferences. Select Firewall With No Proxies. Select your Internet Connection type from the pull-down menu at the bottom and enter your Home Country if the adoptions aren?t grayed out. Click OK and login again using the new settings. If this option doesn?t work, click Connection Preferences in Yahoo! Messenger again and select No Network Detection. Try to login again using the new settings. In some instances, you may need to provide yahoo messenger with the IP address of your firewall or proxy server (you can get this information from your network administrator or from your Internet service provider). Click Messenger and select Connection Preferences again. Select Use Proxies. Enable either the HTTP Proxy or the SOCKS Proxy as needed and provide the proper address. Click OK and login again using the new settings.Secondly; if you are using IM9 there are sign in problems. This is what yahoo has to say. Try an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger 9.0(9.0.0.2128). This latest build includes a fix for the sign-in issues that have been affecting some users. If you were seeing an error code?81003005? when trying to sign in, this latest version may fix that problem. are you able to login to your yahoo mail, check your id and password. If persists, contact yahoo technical support.

I solved the problem by logging into the web yahoo messenger (http://webmessenger.yahoo.com).  Then I was able to log in with the normal messenger client.  I was having the error 81003005 on multiple computers.  After logging into the web messenger, the yahoo client worked on all my computers

try reinstalling the yahoo messenger again,

i too had the same problem ,

and i checked by signing in yahoomail.com to check whether it was a password problem or not, but it was not,

ultimately it was some kind of problem in messenger,

got it fixed bye reinstaling it.

ok, in my case i remembered I tried using a proxy on internet explorer and forgot to put it off, so the proxy connection was still on even though the proxy was dead.

It now a proven fact to me that internet explore settings are linked to yahoo mess!
so make sure your internet explorer is working ok without proxy:

1. Open your Internet Explorer
2. Go to Tools > Internet Options then click the Connections tab
3.Click the LAN Settings button and a new dialog box will open
4. At the new dialog box, look for the Proxy server checkbox, if this is checked, uncheck it.
5. Then your done, click OK button for the dialog boxes.
6. Try logging in to your Yahoo Messenger account.

I had the same exact problem and I solved it myself. This error will also display if you had changed your password recently.To fix it, you simply enter your new password in. Your Yahoo! Messenger will then be able to login again. Note: This will only work if you have the "Remember my ID & Password" checked. If not, then it could be that you're entering your password in wrong or something. Another thought is that maybe your account got hacked and the hacker had changed the password on you.
