Stopped playing discs

Hi. The DVD player on my home theatre stopped working. It only says "reading" and nothing else happens. We got the 3 discs out, thinking it was a disc that went in wrong somehow..but is not working. I don't know a thing about these things, have not used this very much, just went to play a disc, from the main unit not the remote, and this all happened. Can you help me? It is out of warranty now, of course. Thanx...your time and help is greatly appreciated...sincerely...Leeann Miller

Hi Techman and thank you for your help. I am unable to load any discs into this unit. The DVD would not eject any of the discs, I manually fished them out to see if that would stop the unit from getting stuck on "reading". It still goes to "reading" if I turn the unit on, without any discs in it. I cannot load the cleaning disc, which I have, into the unit to try to clean it, as you suggested. What should I do now? HELP!!! lol....thanx again for your help and your time...is greatly appreciated. Leeann Miller

I have a similar problem where the unit won't open (if you try to eject a CD, it just says 'Open') or if you try to play, it just says 'Reading.' This started after my daughter pushed a CD into the tray without 'opening' it first and then my son pushed 'eject' and it came 'shooting out.' I've unplugged the unit but no change.

    Any suggestions?

Leeann Have you tryed to clean the lens yet with a lens cleaning disc? If not invest in one as it may be your problem as dirt and dust does collect on the lens if its not used all that often or worse yet a film on the lens will stop it from reading the disc. Since you did already say you knew nothing about these things then thats where your troubleshooting stops, If it dosent correct the problem with a cleaning. Now its time to call JVC to see where the best and closest servicer are located Sorry couldnt help ya more But theres a limited amount a consumer can do these days as these units have no user serviceable parts inside and best to be done by a pro Good Luck. I just looked at the unit Leeann and Im sorry , as no you cant use or its not recommended to use a lens cleaner on this type of unit as there are all separate trays .. Do the trays work. As I mean do they each come out and close correctly when the corrisponding buttons pushed? If all the disc are out and you turn on the unit, and it reads or says its trying to read then theres most likly a mechanical problem where the unit thinks it sees a disc but dosent. Now you could try one more thing. can you open more then one at a time>> if so open themm all. Unplug the unit. Take the screws off the two sides and maybe even a couple in the back. Carefully lift off the top cover and look for the small lens on the laser assy. It should be right next to a small turntabe that the disc would sit on. try cleaning the lens very carefully and reassembling unit and trying this all over again . If it dosent work then its time to decide if you wanna invest in a new unit or have this one looked at.

HI - I have a Samsung HT-TZ315 home theatre and it wont play the Avatar dvd as well. The disc loads then stops at a black page with 0.00 timer then nothing. It is not a blue ray disc and other DVD's work...

The disk I have here, does something similar.. long introduction of black and the sound starts. Then the movie begins. Are you sure it stops completely and has no sound?

Try playing it in your PC with the appropriate DVD software installed. If it fails return it for replacement.

SONY DAV DZ260, home theatre. Trouble reading the disc.

There is some intermittent connection that is causing the issue. Finding it might prove to be a bear - I would recommend sending it back for another working.unit.

Various LG DVD Player

Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
