My TV will work for hours some days, others not. It will go off and when you try to turn it back on, the green light comes on, but goes right back off, like it has to cool down, reset or something before it can be turned back on. At first it just went off, but now there are red and green lines that appear as it is going off and it is happening more frequently than it used to. Is it time for a new TV or can this one be fixed?

Re: Turns off every so often
This symptom seems to be a vertical Sweep fault cause what happens is theres a protection circuit in this set that activates when it sees theres no verticle sweep, it shuts off the picture on the set so that the tubes dont get lines burnt in the middle and become damaged. If you know your way around a TV set then you could locate the vertical output IC and resolder all its pins first as well as anything else in that circuit that looks like a cold solder connection. Then i9f it still does the same thing I would just replace the verticle output IC as well as the B+ supply capacitor off the flyback xformer for the sweep dirived power supply. Now if your not knowlegeable about these HI VOLTAGE circuits my advice would be do not attempt the repair yourself as you could get hurt and /or cause more problems with the set as there are no tubes in this set to test except the picture tubes. Tries tv unplug, replug it back about an hour later. The tv,now should reset itself back to factory setting. The tv should work now,not than the power supply board is dying, not giving the right voltage to the rest of the tv anymore.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Becouse if you have, you need to change the input and maybe you forget to put it right back.
Imagine you have a ps3, you have to change the input from tv to HDMI right..well if stop play or watcha movie and torn off the LCD...when you came again the next day the LCD starts as HDMI and not as TV.
You need to change the input...
Hope it helps, if the problem persists it´s a malfuncion...
MY TV TURNS OFF AFTER WE TURN IT ON IT GOES BACK OFF A FEW TIMES AND THEN STAYS ON. AND WHEN I COME HOME FROM WORK IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN, THAT HAPPENED FOR 2 WKS NOW IT JUST GOES OFF YOU ONLY SEE THE GREEN LIGHT ON THE FRONT COME ON(POWER LIGHT) AND IT GOES RIGHT BACK OFF IT WILL NOT STAY ON
A temporary solution is to unplug the TV for a few minutes, remove static from the glass with your hand. It is important to unplug rather than turn off. If you have a degauss button you can also press that before unplugging. Wait several minutes or an hour. Then plug it back in. If you have Picture in Picture it may be an issue with that and to permanently solve may need a repair person. The unplugging may get you by for a few days at a time. That's at least better than an hour.
I have two RCA HD52W59 TV's. I have had one for 3 years and one 4 years. The one I have had for 4 years is giving me the problem. Last week the tv turned off while watching it. It wouldnt come right back on. 10 minutes later we tried and it worked fine. the other night the kids were watching and it turned off and smelled like something burning. I tried turning it right back on and got no power at all. I tried to turn it on two days later and it made a buzzing noise and the green light went out. Never did get a picture, no powering up on the screen. Any ideas? Don't want to spend alot of money. Really loved the TV hope it isnt junk now. Better yet I hope the same thing doesnt happen to the other one I have.
Well guys I found that if one just reads the manual you may find the solution...Mine seemed pretty simple - the room temperature was too warm! I adjusted the heat in the house, the yellow Status light went off and...it works again!
