Turns off every so often

My TV will work for hours some days, others not. It will go off and when you try to turn it back on, the green light comes on, but goes right back off, like it has to cool down, reset or something before it can be turned back on. At first it just went off, but now there are red and green lines that appear as it is going off and it is happening more frequently than it used to. Is it time for a new TV or can this one be fixed?

I have a used Mits VS-45607 without a remote or manual it has a great picture but it also shuts itself off. Sometimes in a matter of minutes sometimes in a half hour. The green light is on, does that mean its a timer issue?

This symptom seems to be a vertical Sweep fault cause what happens is theres a protection circuit in this set that activates when it sees theres no verticle sweep, it shuts off the picture on the set so that the tubes dont get lines burnt in the middle and become damaged. If you know your way around a TV set then you could locate the vertical output IC and resolder all its pins first as well as anything else in that circuit that looks like a cold solder connection. Then i9f it still does the same thing I would just replace the verticle output IC as well as the B+ supply capacitor off the flyback xformer for the sweep dirived power supply. Now if your not knowlegeable about these HI VOLTAGE circuits my advice would be do not attempt the repair yourself as you could get hurt and /or cause more problems with the set as there are no tubes in this set to test except the picture tubes. Contact Mits. at this #800-332-2119 or look in your owners manual for a contact #. Good Luck.

TV turns on then off no picture

this is very common. it is the power supply going bad. it should run at 130 volts dc. but it is now running much lower that this. just enought for the tv to come on. but not enough to power all the circuits right.

Green power light comes on, the turns right back off. No picture. Please help

I'm not sure what TV model you have. But, thing I can tell you is the most common problem.
Most of the time with flat panel TVs, the power supply for the screen fails. And the TV normally turns itself off to protect other parts in the TV from being damaged. Basically " Protection Mode".

You can try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself; then try again turning it on. If it doesn't work after that, it's time for the TV repair shop.

Mitsubishi WD-62827---PICTURE TURNS GREEN

I had the same problem. I deducted that if my TV worked fine for an hour or so and then the colors became bad (green, people's faces purple...), it must be a overheating problem. Simple logic, right? So, I picked up a few tools and a small vaccum and went to work.
I went first for the main source of heat: The lamp. Just a few screws, and I removed it. The lamp cage has a fine screen to prevent the dust to cover the lamp. Mine was covered with dust! And the fan behind the lamp was also covered with dust! Bingo!!! That's my problem! I cleaned everything and vaccumed all the air vents on the the back of the TV. I put the lamp back and checked that the fan was working. The TV works like new since!
Before you are out of a TV for days and spend an arm and a leg for a "Technician" to fix it (replacing expensive parts that didn't need to be replaced in the first place), try what I described above first. It's very simple and it takes only 15 minutes.
Since my TV is 2 1/2 years old, I purchased a replacement lamp. I know that one of these days it will burn out. I'll be ready and my TV will be working again in 15 minutes!
Since my problem was solved, I didn't go to the next step. There must be one or two other cooling fans inside the TV, but they must be working...
Good luck,

Turns off every so often

Well guys I found that if one just reads the manual you may find the solution...Mine seemed pretty simple - the room temperature was too warm! I adjusted the heat in the house, the yellow Status light went off and...it works again!
Thanks

Turns off every so often

If this is a sony or mits it may be the subject of a thermal cutoff service bulletin. (I don't recall which)They have extended the factory warranty on these to cover this problem.
