Purple band My camera has just started producing a purple band in the viewfinder. It shows on about 1/4 of the screen down from the top of the screen. If I hold the shutter button down momintarily it will shrink to about 1/6 of the screen. However the 1/16 purple line will appear in the picture. It happen if I do or do not use flash.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Nikon coolpix p60

The viewfinder on the Coolpix P60 appears to be a small monitor that links to the main image sensor that is the same sensor that the lens uses. If the purple is on the images when they have been downloaded from the camera to another device, then the sensor is bad. If it is only on the viewfinder and the rear LCD, then the problem is in the connection from the circuit board to the monitoring devices.

Either way, it is probably cheaper to replace the camera than to have a non-warranty sensor or circuit board replacement.

Purple Screen on my Canon PowerShot A85 (Canada)

If the purple band does not appear in pictures when you download them on computer, then the problem is a faulty LCD screen or a bad ribbon cable.

If the purple band appears in pictures even when you watch them on a computer, then the problem is a faulty CCD sensor.

In both situations the repair requires complete disassembling and must be done by a technician.

If it is CCD , then Canon may cover the out of warranty repair, call them back and ask again stating that is CCD problem.

You can also get an independent quote on repair here: Repair.

Purple Screen

If it is only 2 months old, then you still have warranty.
A purple lcd, viewfinder and photo is a 100% CCD failure.
If out of warranty, not worth the repair.

Purple band at top of tv screen

Please make sure you have the Lamp seated properly in the set. If you purchased just the lamp without the basket make sure it is Flush against the front of the lamp basket. The light path is being obstructed or not aimed properly. Let me know, hope this helps.

Purple color band at top of TV screen

If the problem is visible on all inputs (DVD, sat, etc.) you have a bad optical block. That model has a two year warrnty on the block but you'll have to pay labor to get it replaced

Purple band

It lloks like the video cable or inverter may be bad. Worst case scenario is the LCD may be bad. Try replacing cable or inverter first.
