Hi There I have a portable dvd player and when you turn it on the screen is white and there is no picture but the sound comes thru just fine. What should I do to fix the problem. Thank you very much with any help. There is no little switch on the side of it to change it and if you push the tabby on the top it will turn the screen black. Help!! Thanks

Re: white screen no picture but sound
First thing to check is the ribbon cables for chaffing, or the connection seating. This can cause this symptom. As well as a failing LCD video deciphering circuit and/or motherboard problems.
not a bad chance that you'll need to replace the screen/unit. any warranty?

That will be the screen driver chip faulty or even the luminance set too high. Try turning the brightness down and if there's a dark picture it's the chip, if not maybe even the flexi strip from the base to screen.
Hi you probably turned the screen the wrong way take off the battery
undo all the screws (heaps) take the base off and check the black and white plug hasnt pulled out of the sockets push them back in, unless you turned the screen around and around and ripped them out this may be the cause when putting the screws back in careful you dont thread them as it is easily done good luck
If its the red white and blue AV cable on both ends yes you can. If its a red white and blue AV on one end and a audio looking jack on the other end you can too. They sell all those cords at Radio shack or most electronic stores.
If the DVD is connected to the TV properly using the yellow, white & red AV cable and the TV is switched to AV and there is still no picture, plug the yellow lead from the back of the DVD player into the green socket. If you see a black and white picture now the DVD output is on Progressive Scan mode. See user manual to turn off Progressive Scan mode.
