Hi Having left my 7i down for a couple of months I was dismayed to say the least that my camera would turn on, but no visual appeared on my screen. Have tried a few things to no avail, would seriously like some help.... many thanks steve........
This is an update. Sony is now handling repairs for the defective Sony CCD issue. Sony will fix your Minolta camera for free (with free shipping) regardless of warranty. You need to do this before March 31, 2008 so for others who have this problem get going! See this link:

The Dimage models that Sony is accepting for the recall repair are:
Dimage 7HI, 7I, A1, Xi, F300, XT, X20, S414.

I know this is an old post, but sounds like your CCD sensor is shot. Check out this link: http://dcviews.com/press/Konica-Minolta-Oct05.htm My camera did the same thing. It was 2years out of warranty, but Sony (now owns Konica-Minolta) asked me to send it in. When they could not fix it they gave me a brand new Sony Alpha DSLR-a100K!!!! Jid
