Sounds like the router is not configured properly. I would follow the instructions that came with the router. There is a free program called Network Magic www.networkmagic.com that you can download and run free for 30 days. I have used this program to sortt out network related problems
It is an issue with AOL, when AOL is uninstalled some files and folders are left. After the uninstallation of AOL, you need to find and delete the remaining AOL folders and then you can reinstall AOL to restore the file.
AOL FINALLY listed the way to remove this major annoyance.
And it actually WORKS.
Delete the SpyZapper components manually.
Log in to your computer using the administrator username and password, and then search and delete the following files:
AOLszs.drv
settings.ini
OptScan.exe
Note: Generally these files are located as below: AOLszs.drv & settings.ini files location:
In Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\AOL
In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL
OptScan.exe file location:
In Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\AOL.
In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\C_AOL 9.1
Try this instead because maybe files got corrupted already thats why you are missing some option. but read it first before trying steps
1. Use AOL Uninstall to remove most AOL files
2. Manually search the C:/ drive for all remaining AOL files
3. Run Regedit to edit the registry to find and remove all AOL files EXCEPT
Address Book files.
WARNING: Editing the registry is considered a high-level tech
responsibility. New users or users not familiar with the registry are
cautioned NOT to do the next step. However, if you feel comfortable
proceeding, then:
From Start Menu select Run
In the Run window, Type in Regedit
The registry will be displayed on the left side of a two-panelled window
Select the folder at the top
Under the Edit menu, select Find and type in AOL. click on find or OK
The Find engine will locate the first reference to AOL.
Delete this file; F3 to Find Next and continue until all files are deleted EXCEPT ADDRESS BOOK-related files
When this process is complete {you will come to understand why your pc is slower after installing AOL}, Shut down completely.
Reboot the pc
Use your AOL install disk to reinstall a new AOL system.
The install is prompt you for your logon info and open AOL for you.
Addresses will be retained.
Again, This is not a process for a novice user. The danger is selecting
a file to delete that may make your system inoperable.
Aol (or as it's sometime called, The Aol virus) may not (very likely) has not been completely uninstalled from your machine. That should not be the problem you are experiencing but stranger things have happened and (at a later date) you might wish to use Regedit (very carefully) and do a search for "AOL" - deleting those keys. Also delete any folder titled AOL. So much for the trivia problem although it wasn't trivia at one time and caused (with an earlier version of AOL many years ago) a major mess. By the way....67% of the geeks use Firefox as there browser. You might like it and it's FREE. Onward...With no disrespect for E-Machines prior models than what I hope is your new one...were very popular in repair shops...if it eventually has a motherboard problem it's strongly suggested you replace the motherboard (or any other failing component) with a name brand manufacturer (and hey...maybe upgrade at the same time).
Back to your problem...assuming you are connected to the internet go to device manager and see what is not installed...(the exclamation mark). Reinstall those drivers. If you don't know how bug me or simply do a search on the internet for ....."how to install drivers".
Also.....normally drivers don't disappear...you might want to run SCANDISK in thorough mode (if available with your operating system) to fix any problems.
Failing both of these steps (and I would run scandisk before I reinstalled the driver) you could have a file corruption problem with your Operating system....not knowing which one you have try to do - in this order- a repair, a restore, a reinstall (be careful with the latter as you may have to reinstall all your applications). Note: Sometimes you can do a reinstall with a slash command and only reinstall the system files. This is OS dependent.
By the way....I would not rule out AOL having caused this problem. I personally used them when they were the only act in town....and waited as many as 10 hours to get connected, paid exorbitant fees, and will never forgive Steve Case (who finally got his one way ticket home). Hope this helps...Tango
