While I was driving, the camera was crunched by the shift lever. The LCD display cracked, and no longer works. The camera is functional otherwise--still takes pictures, just can't see them on the LCD. Does anyone know how to get the camera apart to replace the LCD display? Does Fuji sell the LCD as a replacement part? Thanks.
You should find it easy to pull apart if you take your time and find all the screws. Just don't use brute force or a hammer:-) Maybe a friend can help you if you feel wary. Once the back is off be carefull there may be cables connected to it so don't get carried away. Often the LCD is lying on top of the remainder of the camera and sometimes it's attached the rear of the camera. You'll know as soon as you get it open. Find the screws retaining the LCD and remove them. You may find some adhesive tape holding the LCD down too. Carefully remove this and keep it.The LCD will have one, maybe two flat ribbon cables protuding from it. To disconnect these the sockets they are attached to will have either a tiny plastic flap across the top of the cable holding it down and if it's one of these then carefully pry the flap up with a thin blade. If it doesn't have a flap the you'll notice a different coloured piece of plastic rinning under the cable with very small protusions at each end. With a small screwdiver you should be able ease these protusions away from the socket. Do one end and then the other but don't push too far. This will loosen the cable and you can pull it out. You will probably find two standard type wires coming out of the LCD as well. If you're lucky they terminate in a plug which is easily removable. If not they will be soldered to a PC board. Do a rough drawing of the board and mark where which coloured wire is soldered. For a replacement you can try Fuji but if you think the cost is over the top take a look at Ebay and see if there's the same type camera as yours which is being sold for parts or repair. If you do find one make sure the LCD is intact and bid away on it. Ebay is a goldmine of spare parts and I've used it many times to get cheaper parts for myself. EG a cmplete camera with broken lens for less than Sony wanted for freight for the part I needed. If you don't find one wait a few weeks and one may turn up. When you get the replacement use your memory and put it all back together without ending up with a spare screw or two. Good luck. BMW

If you can’t find a fix there is a guy in South Carolina who sells good used parts. I bought a LCD from him for $39.00 and it works great. I think his email is [email protected]

The Fuji FINEPIXs nearly always have LCDs that plug into the board rather than needing solder. They're pretty easy to remove - plug to the board, put the ribbon cable back in, snap the lcd into the lcd frame and that's about it.
I've done quite a few fujis. Wish I could help you with a replacment lcd display for an A340. I have a good lcd replacement for an F650 which is a 3 inch lcd / display /screen and though some parts are used in more than just one model, I don't think offhand that the A230 takes the 3" display.
If you're fairly handy, give it a shot at replacing - as I said, the Fujis are pretty easy to do.
Best of luck.

Make sure you are careful messing around in there, the flash charges a capacitor that may still be live when you take the camera apart. I know from first hand experience.

Best and cheapest solution is to buy a faulty Z3 on Ebay with an intact outer glass and do a swop. You'll need a tri-blade screwdriver, a very small 4-bladed( posi-drive), and care, but steady hands and a 'follow your nose' plan should see you through. There is a Z3 on Ebay presently to do the job. You can practice on that before you attempt your own. Good luck.

SOURCE: LCD display cracked
You can replace the lcd screen although you do need to be careful. You camera has a flash capacitor that contains 300 volts and if you short it out you can easily fry the camera circuitry. You can check on ebay for an lcd or call fuji usa. I will warn you though their parts department isn't the most helpful.

Possibly search ebay for broken cameras of the same make or replacement parts. Fuji's contact center may sell parts or possibly fix your camera for free.
