Lightning hit last night tv won't work cable company says it's in the television
Last night lightning struck next to my house. The cable on all my televisions went out. The cable man came this morning. He got two of them to come back on but my Panasonic CT-36G24A does not have any picture. It's just a dark blue screen. I tried hooking the cable directly to the tv and also through the vcr and dvd to see if I could get the vcr or dvd to play. Nothing will work. Please help. Two of my children's tvs went too but they have small ones that will be easy to replace. I don't want to replace my 36". Does anyone know what happened? The cable man was able to get the television in one of my children's rooms back up and my home theater in the family room back up. The other three won't work. It also caused my son's x-box to not turn on any longer also. One of the other tvs won't turn on at all. The panasonic will turn on but only a dark blue screen is there. I just want to know what could have happened. Thanks

Re: Lightning hit last night tv won't work cable company...
Sorry to here about your problem! This is the time of year I used to get tons and tons of sets, stereos ,games, and vcrs in for repair. On your panasonic it seems that maybe the surge took out the tuner portion or the power supply. It sould cost aprox. 200 bucks or so for a new tuner. Im sure your aware that homeowners will cover almost all repair after the deductable. Good Luck

The warranty does not cover lightning, check if your insurance covers it.
A lightning strike on such panel ( HDMI ) is very difficult to repair and if not impossible. The HDMI connector is hooked to the ground of the TV set so everything could be damaged.
My advice is not to repair.
hi thanks for the question i would guess the motor but man thats a hard one if the dryer was hit by lightning it could have caused a fef problems myself i would call my insurance company tell them you were hit before you call the insurance check all appliances in your house you may find other problems thanks the appliance doc
It may be too late for this advice, but if you live in a lightning prone area, you should consider having a 'whole house surge protector' installed. The cost should be well under $300 (a lot less if you install it) and with the included insurance (most often for $25,000) it is a good investment.
If your house was struck, I'm surprised you don't have a list of things that no longer work.
No, I don't think it is worth the cost of a repair, if you can even find someone to do it for you.
Most of us are retired-
lightning is in KVolt range, the exterior unit is most likely damaged at the low voltage cables to the thermostat, melted out, should get a sparky in to trace the lowV lines, and check out the unit, lightning is not forgiving
