SOURCE: Hand operated free start wheel is not turning
Try holding down the foot pedal & turning the wheel at the same time.

go to http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals and type in your model number, then click "search" to locate the manual for this machine.
Sounds like the clutch is disengaged on your flywheel. Hold the outside of it and turn the inside bit away from you to reengage it.

On the side of the 'knob', look for another wheel that tightens against that, so it engages, that's what it sounds like. When that second wheel is loose, it won't run, it just spins. From the photo I can find of the unit, it looks like that second wheel is below it, but I can't be certain. Let me know how you make out. Please rate and comment, thank you,
Joe

have you checked to make sure the power cord is pushed in correctly?
if the power cord isn't the problem then it may need to be checked by a service tech, because it's not suppose to be running slow just a few months after you bought it.
I would call the people you bought it from & tell them what it's doing & see if they'll give you another one, I've been sewing for 30+ years & I wouldn't keep the machine.
good luck
