1. The only way to avoid stretching of images is by increasing the resolution. Many 19-inch monitors with conventional (4:3)
aspect ratios have 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution. The 1600 x 1200 resolution is ideal for graphic artists
and those who work with photos, since it's close to the resolution of a
2-megapixel digital photo.
2. You can double check by going to the display properties - Settings- Advanced tab below the screen resolution slider, choosing
the Adapter tab, click List all modes and that will settle it once and for all.
If 1440 x 990 isn't listed you're likely going to have to buy a graphics card
that can reproduce that resolution.
Also try and update the driver for your graphics card.
SOURCE: how can I change aspect
In the display properties you can adjust your resolution (aspect ratio).
1. Right click in an open area on your desktop and go to properties.
2. The display properties window will appear. Click on the "SETTINGS" tab.
3. You can adjust the resolution one notch at a time to find the aspect you're looking for. NOTE: by clicking on "APPLY" instead of "OK" you can see the affects of your change without closing the window down. This will allow you to easily change it again without having to reopen the display properties windows over and over again.
Hope this helps.

Try opening up your computer first, and reseating the motherboard ram which possibly may be causing the no post situation. If that does not work, check to see if there is a graphics card on the motherboard. If there is, uninstall it and plug it into the onboard video connector.
If any of these situations are not applicable to you , and you do have built in video, its possible its port went out. Your fixable solution in this scenario would be to buy a video card for your computer and plug it into the motherboard expansion slots (Theres currently AGP ,PCI , PCIe x 1 , PCIe x 16)
If you are unsure of what you have on your motherboard visit www.bustype.com and print out a picture of the different slots, and then compare it to what you have in your motherboard so you can take it to the store and choose a product that is appropriate for your desktop.

Hi,
Do you have any speakers or a fan (table top fan) of any kind near your screen?
They may not be the shielded kind and may cause magnetic interference.
Have you checked your monitor cable to make sure that none of the pins attaching the cable to the monitor or the PC has been bent?
Please post here to let me know how this turns out.
Thanks,
Kaj
