Using a Lexmark X4650 Inkjet Printer. Printer was working fine then it suddenly displayed a error message. I checked users manual - no remedies listed. I removed black cartridge (culprit) and cleaned off with soft towel -replaced and still have error code I unplugged machine - waited a few minutes plugged it back in and reinstalled cartridge - nothing happens - still displays error I have removed the cartridge while machine is turned on and and placed it back in. Still have error. What can I do next? Color side works fine but it won't last long.
It seems that you have tried most of the troubleshooting steps to identify and fix the problem. But try to replace your black cartridge with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge to determine if it's a faulty cartridge issue.
You may also contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

SOURCE: lexmark x4650 refilled ink cartridge
Lexmark does not recommend using refilled cartridges. However, if you have successfully used one before, there's a possibility that the refilled cartride got damaged along the process of refilling. Try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty. Or better yet, try to purchase a new genuine Lexmark cartridge.

I am using a genuine Lexmark Cartridge to begin with. I tried something else while you were attempting to solve. I installed the old cartridge and it worked fine. I am leaning heavily with your suggestion that there is a faulty cartridge in my possession. I will then contact technical support to see what their remedy might be - hope they will replace the cartridge. Thanks for your assistance and to those that chimed in.
