Automatic lens cover won't open.

Powers on OK and the lens extends all the way out but the lens cover stays closed. Sometimes I can get it to partially open just a sliver. Happened all of a sudden, no prior problems, accidents or damage.

Try this only as a last resort after blowing lots of compressed air in there to clean the mechanism. Also with the lens barrel extended, tap it with a pencil (a grain of sand is usually the culprit, this may help to dislodge it). If that doesn't work, it may be necessary to go in there. The following repair will expire your warranty, so be forewarned.

This blog post outlines repair procedures for stuck lens covers. An A400 is used as an example. But for the A620, you might want to extend your zoom all the way out before removing the camera's batteries. Also you'll be applying the ring loosening rubbing alcohol around the barrel's perimeter instead of the front as shown in the procedures.:

Good luck, and remember to do this only as a very last resort. Oh, and if you do decide to try the repair, please post how it went.

clicking is done when the lens unit/camera i ok,when the camera dropped lens unit must be damaged,so it should be serviced/replace with a new unit

Lens cover stays open

Try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.

You can open it up, but only as a very last resort. The above procedures usually work if you try them enough. But for those particularly nasty stuck mechanisms, here's an example repair on a Canon Powershot A400 (do this at your own risk, and it will void your warranty):
