Many TV repair shops have what's called a tube rejuvinator. The modern versions can perform amazing changes to TV tubes. Many other techs treat them like snake oil but believe me I've seen the results of these machines and it makes one wonder why everyone doesn't use them. The new ones are logic controlled whilst the old fashioned or home made models aren't and can cause the tube to die completely. I've had a large TV not showing a picture unless all the lights were turned off and even then it was dim. 20 minutes later the TV was operating as it should. Two years later the same customer saw me in the main street and said the TV was still going like new. It doesn't work on every tube but I never had a failure with the unit I had. Mind you it cost $1200.00 but it made it's money back a few times. It's worth finding a tech who has one. It can be done in the home with no mess and only involves the back of the set and the neck board being removed. All up 30 to 40 minutes work. BMW

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news bud, but thats the beginning of the end for your picture tube. The tube is what the industry calls a soft picture tube. On a set like this it wouldnt be feasable to replace unless you get a good deal and or you realy like the set.
