Turned the tv on using the remote control - heard the tv make the normal start up pop noise, then an zapping kind of sound - the red led lamp is blinking twice fast - the unit now has no picture or sound - this tv is only three years old - Is this something common? Help!!
I was going to try and fix the unit myself but I can't even find a repair manual on the tv - Any hints?

Re:
That sounds like the Hi voltage transformer went bad.. If your a tech simply disconnect the horizontal output transistor and see if thats shorted. If it is then it is for sure the HV transformer. If its not shorted look in the main power supply. Its cost is around 40 bucks or so and the transistor is about 15 to 20 bucks. This entire repair should cost ya around 150 to 175. So if you decide this tv is the one you like then have it fixed. Good Luck

Sounds like you have a jammed / shorted out button on the control panel... Try un-plugging the tv, and then unplug the "button panel" on the front of the tv...see if you can turn the tv on with the remote. Sometimes if one of the buttons gets shorted, it will "lock" the processor from doing ANYTHING else, as it thinks you are holding down the defective button. If this works, simply have the defective switch or control panel replaced, or just leave it unplugged and use the remote only! Hope this helps!
Sorry but it can't be fixed without knowing how a tv works on the inside. The problem is on the inside possibly in the horizontal section and should be taken to a repair shop
I had the same problem. Do you have a cable box for digital TV?
do you have a remote from the cable company? that is programmed to control the TV?
get the cable company to unlock the sound control from it (a 3 number code)
put your sound up to maximum if you can
if you hear faint sound repeat above
you should be able to hear the tv then
then go to the sound settings and adjust as needed
get the cable company to check the box in cas it has been zapped by lighting
good luck
Possible problems:
* The TV set may be unplugged.
* A fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or switched off.
* The remote control unit (RCU) may be disabled.
Solutions:
* Make sure the TV/VCR are plugged in and the wall switch is on.
* Check the fuse or circuit breaker. Test the outlet with a lamp.
* Replace the RCU's batteries: if this fails exchange the unit.
