When you turn the computer on, nothing loads it just asks for a password to unlock the system.
I hope you forgot the password for your Operating System Log On. If you forgot your boot password of your bios, then this may not be as helpful.
For password problems in windows or in any Operating System, I prefer you to use http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ ,a free Windows password cracker based on rainbow
tables. It is a very efficient implementation of rainbow tables
done by the inventors of the method. It comes with a
Graphical User Interface and runs on multiple platforms.
It is very simple and easy to use.
Also, read how to crack or how to use ophcrack to recover your windows password, visit http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/ophcrack/index.php?title=Ophcrack_Howto
Hope this will help you.
Ophcrack is not recomended due to those that can reverse engineer and slip in malware and any other undesirables..... Hirens boot cd is the better way to go. it comes with a load of useful programs and dos programs. it fits onto 1 cd. I use this alot for those that are lazy or do not want to learn how to repair their own pc\'s/laptops.

well....um...sparklechic,
it would sure be nice if you told us weather you have a lapie or a desktop cuz wit a DT you just pull the jumpers like whats-his-name said. if its a lapie...eeeiihhh things get tricky. you can alwas go stright to the screwdriver and hammer but that can end badly (please note.... i say this from personal experance) if you can get into the bios (F10 i think-at startup [ie the HP logo comes up...blue screen...ya know B-I-O-S? yea dat) well you can clear you settngs there....yes even the dreaded "Drivelock" thingie. if however, you CAN start the OS (LUCKY YOU!!!) (Windows XP, Vista, Windows7, ETC.) you have alot more hope. your computer came with a "restore disk." pop that bad boy in at startup and your all set. (if you disreguarded the warnings and lost it you have to go to best buy and grab a new OS i think the windows 7 beta is out so have a look around )what your doing is reinstalling the OS (opperating system). the trick to this is to NOT FORMAT THE HARDDRIVE!!!. REPARTITION IT!!! this just installs a new OS. you cn access your files later. this option is given while installing. if your not comfortable with this i would tell you to send it all the way here to australia but thats some serios shipping charges. instead take it to your local computer shop.

This IS your computer we are talking about, right?
