Yep. The teeth on our gear nearest to the motor melted or chewed off. We thought it was jammed, but it is the gear that needs replacing

SOURCE: Royal 15mx only works in reverse after clearing jammed paper

try resetting the shreddar, unplugging it waiting for about 20 seconds and then plugging back in. Check to make sure there is no paper or paper clips stuck in the shreddar, make sure the unit is properly mounted on bin, the overheat light isn't on is it? if none of this helps and you have a warranty on your shreddar now would be a good time ot call them as you might have a hardware problem.

Your defrost system is bad. Replace the defrost thermostat and defrost heater in the freezer.

SOURCE: staples SPL-770M shredder with overheat light even when cool

Just a FYI: I had the same problem. Nothing appeared jammed. But I took the housing cover off and low and behold the rubber roller that turns the shredders had MELTED to the inside. That's why it wouldn't work. This happened while shredding a single DVD - something I had done effortlessly on numerous occasions. You may want to check to see if the roller melted or if some debris has jammed up inside the unit, like mine did often.

My Ativa HD Pro 1800 will not power on

First check the power point is still working - plug in another appliance, like a table lamp. If OK check the fuse in the shredder cable plug.

The commonest reason for a shredder stopping is a paper jam, or running the shredder for too long. By 'too long', many shredders will cut-out after 5 minutes continuous working, and the sensor may take 15 minutes to cool down! Read the manual.

It maybe that the shredder cutters are jammed. Unplug from mains, and lift off top and place upside down. Use a small screwdriver and/or long nosed pliers to poke at any compressed paper wrapped around the blades - can take a while.

It may be that the sensors are dirty - use a cotton bud dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the sensor light(s) and heads
Give a quick spray to cutters with WD40 Replace - turn on - and run in reverse.

A piece of junk mail from a religious organization had a "medalion" in the envelope. I put the whole thing in the shredder- royal VF1012mx. Now it is jammed makes a terrible noise.

Unplug the machine.
Remove the waste bin.
Remove 4 screws inside underneath to take cutting head off the basket/cabinet.
Turn the cutting head over and remove 6 screws that hold the top cover onto the bottom. Turn the unit back over and remove the top cover...remove the medallion if jammed...check the gear train to see if it has broken any teeth in the drive gears.

I have a Royal 150mx crosscut shredder. It started making a loud noise as if one part was hitting another. It kept working for a while (I shut it down twice to let it cool down when I got the overheat...

Most likely gears inside have been damaged...open up the cutting head... see what is broken ,then contact ROYAL at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.

My shredder stopped working in the middle of a shred. I have cleaned all shredding from it, but it still refuses to run. Is there a thermo cut off switch, and if so, where?

  • Shut off the shredder. Unplug it and let in cool down for up to one hour. This will work if the shredder has stopped due to excessive use.

  • 2

Check to see if the shredder is jammed. This is the most common cause of shredder problems. Click the power switch to reverse, which should clear a minor jam. If not, set the shredder to auto, and then to reverse again until the jam clears.

  • 3

Clear extremely stubborn paper jams by grabbing the stuck paper and gently pulling it out. If smaller pieces of paper cause the jam, shut off the shredder and unplug it. When it cools down, carefully use a pair of tweezers to remove the paper bits.

  • 4

Determine if the power supply to the shredder is working properly. If the power supply is cold, use an alternative source of electricity for your shredder. If it is warm, there may be a problem with the shredder itself. Call your office machine repair shop or the shredder manufacturer for assistance.

Sharpen or oil the blades. Shredder blades need to be oiled on a regular basis to keep your machine in proper working order. Get oil made specifically for shredder blades from an office supply store.

I HAD A PAPER JAM, HAVE REMOVED THE OBSTACLE BUT NOW IT WON'T SHRED

monaswan, If the motor refuses to run, unplug from wall outlet. Then let it "cool down" outside for about 1 hour. Then try it again. There is a "temperature sensor" inside unit that "opens-up" and will not let it run until the ambient temperature falls to a safe operating area. Reply after 1 hour and let me know if that was solution!!! 12fixlouie

The shredder has been unplugged from power for a couple of weeks. I clean and clear paper bits from rollers and plug it in to outlet(with power). It doesn't have an on light and doesn't turn on.

Most common prob with "consumer" machines is that people put "too much" paper in them and JAM them...then if they don't unplug the machine to let it "cool-down"....by which time the machine "fries" the pcb inside.

Will not work after overheating - not able to reset

If you"unplugged" the machine and let it cool down for about 1/2 hour and it still wont work then you have probably fried either the pcb inside or the motor itself...normally the pcb will go first.

Royal CIA12 crosscut shredder overload light came on.

Unplug immediately and wait 20 mins to see if motor will "cool-down"...when plugged back in hopefully the Overload light will be OFF....unless you have it completely jammed up in which case try running it in reverse if the overload light is OFF.
If the overload light wont go out you may need pcb...contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for further parts assistance.
