BENQ FP731 I have just received a used BENQ FP731. From my son. It was working very well on his system. I have plugged it into my laptop with no results.Does it require a specific download program?

This because your ACER laptop having higher resolution than your monitor. Please lower your ACER laptop resolution as low as possible then try again.

jsiwiec, Are you absolutly certain that the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" need replacing, or if the "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply" is not working and is in shutdown mode? CCFL's are not some kind of miniature version of those energy efficient screw-in new style, curlie-Q cfl light bulbs you buy at the local home-center!!! Did your LCD display have bright, crisp, colorful images displayed on the lcd panel 2- 3 days before black screen happened? How many TOTAL "ON" hours of use on this BenQ FP731 ? Maybe your new monitor don't supports the signal of your computer. Try finding another one, or otherwise, buy a graphic card, that will be supported from your monitor.

Opening it will not likely solve your problem. Have you tried another monitor on the computer to see if the problem may be with the computer itself?

I would recommend you to bring it back and get a new one, if its till under warranty. You cannot fix the problem on the panel buttons it looks something to do with the components in the circuit bord.

check your resolution settings and change to 800><600 and try again.If it does not work at 1024><768 try loading monitor driver In display properties it should show BenQ FP731 instead of plug and play monitor.

You remove the 5 screws behind and using a plastic card inserted between the front and back plastic frames gently prise it open.
Careful!!! High voltages inside.

The power and Inverter board has a problem.Check Inverter transistors and the related fuse.

Sounds like the HDMI port on the monitor has been shorted out.
There are very small fuses on the video board that can be changed, but they are fiddly and you may end up doing more harm then good if you are not sure what your doing.
The fuses are actually soldered to the board...it's not a case of pop one out and pop one in like the glass type.

Change the 2SC5707 transistors and electrolytic caps in the inverter
section. Also check the 3A picofuse, and resolder all transformer
pins
