Hp 740 lightscribe not working

I have an HP 740e drive that I made several lightscribed disc on. I have tried everything to get it working. It is about 2 years old and used very little. Uninstalled/installed many times and gave up on it since I needed the disks for a party. I went and bought another HP Lightscribe 1040e and used the same disks that it said could not be read and am having no trouble with it. It says the disks need to oriented etc. and there is no good reason for it to not work. I even used the cables from the new one/thinking it could be in the wires. What would make it quit writing? Can I do something to it (other than throw it out)? Thanks-Flo

Does it write data OK but not scribe??

Possibly it's just dusty after years of sitting. Get a foam swab or long q tip and wet with alcohol a little, and clean off the laser lens inside. Carefully. Or use one of those disk-based cleaner thingies.

Try a lens cleaner - but yes time to put it out to graze I would imagine

When I try to burn a laber I get a message that the lightscribe drive is not recognized (520) the disc [email protected]

Try reading a disc from it. If that won't work, your drive is dead. Try upgrading your drivers, or upgrading the lightscribe software.

LightScribe installed properly, but not seen by other software.

Software problem with NERO and Surething LightScribe. Didn't see the "LightScribe' option in thier software.

Droppix Lightscribe software worked fine.

I am trying to figure out how to use the lightscribe DVD's, how to put a graphic on the DVD?

As long as you have a lightscribe drive it's really simple. Burn the disc as usual, put in upside down, ie label side down and using the lightscribe program burn you image to the disc.

See the www.lightscribe.com site for the latest program and templates etc etc.

We use ours all the time and it is like magic, especially if you use colour lightscribe discs.

H.P. Photosmart C8180. Lightscribe disc supplied fails to be recognised by drive, therefore unable to print label or record onto disc. Also. Do I purchase Lightscribe discs or - ?

I don't think the Lightscribe drivers are on the supplied HP disk. After 9+ hours with HP help (oxymoron) I finally went to www.lightscribe.com and got the drivers myself. They also had some really nice templates also. All free. Once I did that it worked.

HP DVD 740e wont burn Dual Layers anymore!

Try re-installing the software associated with the burner, so it installs the necessary drivers and files needed for the burner to work according to your needs.

Also check the connections and cables... sometimes moving it around causes the cables to loose some contacts.

Hope this helps...
