SOURCE: Washer won't agitate

I saw this happen once and you know what it was? A loose connection!. I pushed in the timer's molex block and it worked! It musta vibrated out the socket somehow. You must flip up the console to access the controls.

SOURCE: no agitation

I have a Whirlpool Utlimate Care II LSQ8520JQ0. For those having a problem separating the upper and lower agitator halves, here's how I solved it after about 2 hrs of aggravation.
Called Sears and Whirlpool with no help (didn't have tech manual...go figure).
I saw the same post with the problem with melted hooks (I called them tabs) ontop of the dog housing being melted. You can differentiate the melted tabs from the dog housing as the dog housing is usually clear plastic (after wiping all the crud off) and the tabs are white as they are part of the agitator. There will be four white tabs on top of the dog housing. They look both smashed and melted. I took a flat head screw driver and and hammer and chipped off the white melted tabs visible on top. I inevitably also chipped some of the dog housing but only marginally. Once chipped off you'll see the tabs are actually rectangular in shape. At this point I EASILY pulled the top and lower halves apart. Those retangular tabs are the molded part of the agitator housing extending down past the dog housing. You're home free at this point.
It's the melted tabs on top of the dog housing that keeps you from separating the halves. What a pain but finally figured it out.

HOW DO YOU RELACE THE DOGS?

Replacing the dogs in most auger/agitators is kind of tricky, do to the fact that they heat seal most of the components together. Personally I have both failed and suceeded attemping this. As well it is quite hard to explain how to do without actually being there, it is fairly straight forward, Basically the dogs are inside the agitator so that when the agitation begins the back and forth action, it doesn't simply spin the agitator around and around, free spinning, or not at all, so the dogs catche and releases the splines inside the body of the agitator so your clothes are "agitated" to the point of getting clean. With that said, the most efficient way of dealing with this problem is by getting the agitator dog assembly, I looked up your model number and I believe that the part number you're seeking is 285811 agitator cam kit. Please contact if you have any questions.

Why must I turn drum clockwise before it will go to high spin

check the motor coupling,if it's worn in the center it can catch and work and then slip or you have a bad transmission.when you check the coupling and if it isn't broke check for oil on the bottom of the transmission,if you find oil that's a good sign the transmission is blown.watch this video

My washing machine will drain an spin but will not agitate

There is a good possiblity that the agitator coupler is bad. reach into the machine and try to spin the agitator. If the whole thing spins then you have a bad coupler. Some agitators are a two piece design and the top half is supposed to turn freely one direction and catch the other. if you have that type and the top spins both ways but the bottom stays still you have a bad agitator. To remove agitator, grab the bottom and pull up hard. Its only held on by plastic fingers

Bottom agitating, but top freely spins

You need to get an agitator repair kit. Remove the cap on the agitator. Some have a second inside plastic cover/cap. You will need a long extension and rachet and 1/2" socket to remove the hold down bolt. Remove and replace the parts with the kit parts. Replace the cover. 10 minute repair... online kit is about $13.00.
