Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Restart your router or modem and try again to download the Garmin map update. To fix this issue, just change your Garmin device from MTP to mass storage mode.
If still your issue is not fixed and you can't download the Garmin map update, then take help from our GPS Experts to fix this issue.
Try using a different website where you can download the maps for free. These should work. If they don't, you might need a software update from the same web site before getting more maps: www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00401-20

Garmin has released new maps. Most of their units are entitled to a free update if the unit was purchased recently Just a heads up to anyone who recently purchased a C330. According to Garmin's tech support, the map udate 2008 is not free to those of us that recently purchased a C330. Only to those who purchased a C340 and up. Their excuse is that it is a "low end" unit, and also that the memory cannot hold the full US maps on the DVD. Gee, I can purchase the update for $69.99 and load a subset of the maps if I want, according to the person in tech support, but I cannot receive it as a free update. So, apparently buyer beware if you purchase Garmin's "low end" units. You will apparently not be able to receive a free update of maps, even if the unit you buy is already out of date.
Are you trying to update a Nuvi that already has European maps installed or are you trying to install European maps into a Nuvi that does not already have them?
If it's a map update, are you getting the error when you download the update to pc, or when you are trying to install the update to the Nuvi?
When I install US map updates into a streetpilot or Nuvi, it typically ends with a download error but the maps do in fact get updated and the new software versions are shown in the setup menus.
The Garmin rep I spoke with says that is normal.
If you are in the United States, I can get you maps, updates, and even install them for you if you wish.
Feel free to shoot me a message if you're interested.
You may have to add Garmin to your trusted web sites !!! Firewall.
In a web browser, tools, internet optoins, security, trusted sites, sites button, add it here.
hope this helps.
Regards.
If you are referring to firmware updates and you have downloaded Garmin's Web Updater, just plug the unit into the computer. The Web Updater will connect online and let you know if there are available updates. If you are referring to map updates, it is up to you when to update the maps, but new maps are usually available for purchase each year. You don't have to update them that often, though.
If you have downloaded the latest version of WebUpdater, you will be able to update the unit's firmware for free from Garmin. If you are looking to update the actual maps on the unit, map updates can be purchased in CD or SD card formats.
GARMIN offers a free download called "WebUpdater" for these products. Once you have the GARMIN USB driver for this unit installed on your computer (also avail. at GARMIN.com), you can run the WebUpdater, and it will update all known updates to the unit.
Installing "new" maps...
If you don't mean "updated" maps, then you would have to use another GARMIN mapping product like MapSource, then load the new maps into the unit via an SD FLASH card.
The only way to update the maps is to purchase new maps from Garmin and download them via the computer. The 2008 map updates are currently available, and Garmin has told me new maps will be out in a few months.
