    Dear Joe,
I'm using a Lenovo Y510 Idea Pad. Last night my sister did something with my laptop and then, this morning when I turned it on, this message appeared " bootmgr is missing, press ctrl+alt+del to restart".
I searched for solution on the internet and followed those steps but nothing happened even when I put the vista installation disk into my laptop. There was not any windows or anything like system recovery tool. That message is still there and I don't know what I should do.
I'm looking forward to your answer.
    Thank you so much.

Bootmgr is missing

There are a number of possible causes for BOOTMGR errors, including the most common "BOOTMGR is missing" error message.

The most common reasons for BOOTMGR errors include corrupt and misconfigured files, hard drive and operating system upgrade issues, corrupt hard drive sectors an outdated BIOS and damaged or loose IDE cables

Anothe reason you might see BOOTMGR errors is if your PC is trying to boott from a hard drive or flash drive that is not properly configured to be booted from. In other words, it's trying to boot from a
non-bootable source.

This also would apply to media on an optical drive or floppy drive that you're trying to boot from.

make sure there are no disks in cd floppy usb drives

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

if its a flat ribbon 40 pin IDE it will be the fist to fail

make sure all power and data leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs

data and power to travel through every working device and to continue its cycle and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

also make sure you have set it boot from you hard drive in BIOS

hope this helps

My laptop says bootmgr is missing and i dont know how to fix

First make sure that all usb devices are unplugged and remove all cd's or dvd's or sd cards etc.
If you are running Windows 7 or Vista you can try do a repair by hitting F8 while it boots and then select repair. If this does not work you will need a install disc. If you have Windows XP you will need an install CD to do a repair. I have attached a few links that may help explain in detail. Thanks for using fixya.

Bootmgr missing

You can often fix it right back up using the original Vista installation disk it has a System Recovery Tool. Set your computer to boot from DVD in the BIOS), insert the disc and restart.

BOOTMGR is missing error, Tried reformatting, but computer shuts off randomly.

Your problem is not your OS its your hard drive, when hard drives go bad (bad sectors) they will almost always corrupt the OS. You could pay someone like 50 bucks to run a diagnostic on your hard drive but that is about half the cost of a new one. I would replace that and I am positive it will fix your issue. Unfortunately there is no way to see this coming.
