The fact it stopped freezing to the point that your food thawed is a definite problem you need to have inspected. But keep in my mind, you apparently have an intermittent issue, and if you give your refrigerator repair service technician as many details about what you noticed in regards to your temperatures as you can, he should be able to pinpoint your problem if he knows what he is doing.

take everything out of it, and let it thaw for 24 hours, using towels and whatever to clean up the water......then plug it back in, if it still does it, like 2 days later, it's broke, if it doesn't it was just the coil in the back that froze up. Happened to me.

It's probably frozen up due a bad defrosts system Call or email us with your model number and we'll be sure to send the proper part to get your freezer freezing again. How long has it been out? If it's been a few days of not freezing, you'll want to to make sure that the ice is all thawed from inside the back wall. You have a defrost timer that has possibly slowed down because it is defective. I need you to time the defrost timer or turn the defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment until the refrigerator compressor stops running. It should remain off for about 20 minutes. If a lot longer and the refrigerator does not defrost regularly about 3 times a day then it needs to be replaced. Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.

• possible causes:

1. bad defrost timer
2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
3. bad thermo switch in freezer

If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

The freezer is supposed to thaw at least everyday. Only, you usually kant tell because it doesn't do it long enough to melt the food so you don't notice it. You have a couple of components to check here. 1 is the defrost timer, which unless it has been changed recently, has the same pre determined defrost time. So you would have noticed by now. Next is the defrost termination switch. If you have excess ice on the evaporator, this will make the defrost longer than before. Unless the switch is going bad causing the defrost to go extra long, there is an excess amount of ice that is more than usual. Bad door seal will cause this. A slightly low freon charge. And a thermostat that is malfunctioning, causing the freezer to run continuously, will make excess ice buildup in the freezer. I would make sure the kids aren't leaving the door open and the gaskets are good. If not the case, call a repairman.
