I bought a brand new Gateway 450ROG notebook back in 2003. I've actually had very few problems with it until just recently...5 years later. My hard drive needs replaced...I'm just getting the "R.I.P" clicking sound when turning the computer on. I unplugged the computer and removed the battery pack, then I removed the hard drive. The original HD is a Hitachi Travelstar model# IC25N030ATMR04. Basically, it's 2.5, ATA-6 (I think), 4200 RPM, 30GB. What can I buy that will be compatible with my 450ROG if I'm hoping to spend $75 or less?
This is and IDE hard drive, i dont believe that your HDD could be SATA due the age of your Laptop, but just in case check first that info before to buy it.This is and IDE hard drive, i dont believe that your HDD could be SATA due the age of your Laptop, but just in case check first that info before to buy it.

This computer is ancient. You could buy a refurbished computer for $80 and it would still be at least 4 times better than this computer. Just buy a new computer.
Windows will not allow you to format the partition you're working from. You might have to use a third party software to format the drive then reinstall Windows. Gparted is a good program.

Here's a link to Gateway's drivers for your machine. There are several different wireless drivers, you may have to try a few before finding the right one.
