What hard drive can I upgrade my old 450ROG with?

I bought a brand new Gateway 450ROG notebook back in 2003. I've actually had very few problems with it until just recently...5 years later. My hard drive needs replaced...I'm just getting the "R.I.P" clicking sound when turning the computer on. I unplugged the computer and removed the battery pack, then I removed the hard drive. The original HD is a Hitachi Travelstar model# IC25N030ATMR04. Basically, it's 2.5, ATA-6 (I think), 4200 RPM, 30GB. What can I buy that will be compatible with my 450ROG if I'm hoping to spend $75 or less?

This is and IDE hard drive, i dont believe that your HDD could be SATA due the age of your Laptop, but just in case check first that info before to buy it.

Gateway 450ROG cpu upgrade

This computer is ancient. You could buy a refurbished computer for $80 and it would still be at least 4 times better than this computer. Just buy a new computer.

Laptop won't fdisk or format hard drive.

Windows will not allow you to format the partition you're working from. You might have to use a third party software to format the drive then reinstall Windows. Gparted is a good program.

Gateway 450ROG

Without a visual inspection it would be impossible to say. But it does sound like you will almost certainly need a new motherboard.
