I haven't used for a year. it has been sitting downstairs and hasn't been disturbed at all.
Sounds like the power supply has failed. That's where you plug the power wire into it. You could try opening the case and re-seating the main plug connector on the mother board. This is the big bunch of wires that ends in a 24 pin plug attached to the main board.
(See if you can borrow a power supply from a handy family member?) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm

Try another power cord first to be sure; if that doesn't works, then replace the power supply.

Its possible that the power supply inside the CPU is unable to provide the required DC Voltage as required by any PC. Try and exchange it a friend's SMPS of the same ratting(wattage) as yours and see if the PC works. If not, remove the RAM from their DIMM slots and clean the contact points. But if the RAM gets spoiled/damaged the MOBO should respond with continuous beeping sounds......sodeep

Does it display on your monitor "No Input Signal"? If so it could very well be your motherboard. Same thing happened to me. :(

Do you see the BIOS splash screen or anything?
Try booting into safe mode by pressing F* as soon as you power on the computer. If the monitor works, then it is a bad driver. Roll back to a previous restore point, boot to last known good coonfiguration. Last Known good configuration is available from the same as the safe mode screen.
