I had the same problem with same speaker system. the amp for this system is inside the bass speaker. if your amp is still working but your bass speaker is not you could cut the wires to that speaker making sure the cut wires do not short out. i was quoted more to repair them than it was to buy a new set. but i wont be buying logitech again as ive had two lots fail.

SOURCE: How to disassemble Logitech Z-340 sub-woofer

The speaker bezel can be removed in only two ways:

1) Somehow remove the grille in order to get a the screws which hold the bezel onto the cabinet. I tried to do this and couldn't get it to budge. Once I got the thing open I observed that Logitech used a LOT of glue to hold this thing together.

2) Drill holes THROUGH the grill above each of the 8 screws large enough so you can loosen the screws.

Once you get it open, you'll be shocked to discover what you thought was the subwoofer cone is actually A ROUND PIECE OF CARDBOARD fastened to the foam. The 4" driver is behind this fastened to a board halfway back pointing into the chamber containing the electronics.

You can get to the power transformer, but good luck removing it. The screws are nearly impossible to unfasten; more glue but more importantly incredibly awful access to the nut and screw (yes, a screw, not a bolt).

I wouldn't pay 5 bucks for this system. Luckily, I didn't.

SOURCE: Logitech x-230 speaker system

Ironically enough, I went on here because I have the satellites but no subwoofer! LOL, what are the odds. Anyways, if you happen to receive this information, can you please email me at [email protected]?

Like I said, I'm searching for the same exact information for a similar problem and this would REALLY help as I can't power the speakers without this.

SOURCE: where can i purchase the audio cables that connect the Logitech X 230 sub woofer to my laptop and mp3 player

Usually you can purchase audio cables for speakers and sub-woofers from any or authorized PC outlets.
Just explain to the dealership what you want to connect it to and they will shoe you the right "jack" to buy.

Do i have to have the sub-woofer in order for my logitech X-230 speakers to work with my computer?

Certainly any large speaker itself cant be used with
very weak computer out signal
The signal should have power amplification in addition to
voltage amplification to energise large speakers

Sub woofer got weak

If there is an adjustment, turn up the subwoofer volume. After you started shaking the house somebody may have adjusted it for you.
Check your computer control panels volume too, cause they may have a subwoofer volume there too.
If there is an equalizer (software) then make sure the low frequencies are set properly (middle or above). Check for this in your computer audio control panels.

If there is no adjustment anywhere, take it back, 'cause it is busted. If it is too late to take it back, sent it to logitech for repair under warranty. If it is too late for that, go buy a new one.

How do i open the sub-woofer unit?

the speaker is were you can access the inside. you need to gently pry the speaker mesh off the outer ring. then you will see the screws that hold that speaker on. most any type of glue will work. you will want to set it on its face until it has com pleated bonding. [email protected]

Sub woofer making a screaching loud noise when powered on

The pop from other electrical items makes me think it's a ground problem but I am do not have a clue as to what type of setup you are running over there. Did you try a surge protector? Is it 110volts with a seperate ground wire?
Have you tried running a UPS?

Sub-woofer malfunction

if the amp is going bad repair or replace, the sub you would probably have to replace, this would be the best fix. but check the amp also.good-luck!

Shorted Sub-woofer

try this site first; http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-... but it sounds as if something has fried in the amp - if you look inside you may well see some burning marks around some of the components. Another possilility is that the cable being pulled out pulled something inside the speaker that has damaged the cone or more likely the power supply , but the symptoms you describe suggest an amplifier issue, possibly caused by damage to the power supply system. Hope this helps :)
