All my hardware is HP. I am on my laptop (Vista). My desktop (XP)will not boot up properly after I installed a new HP Monitor & Printer (Printer works OK). The monitorgive the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \Windows\System32\Config\System" It continues "You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Set-Up using the original Set-up CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair" My problem is I don't have an original Set-up CD-ROM as windows came pre-loaded in my HP Computer. Can you help? Chas

Ok..sounds like an operating system mismatch...you may need to remove the software entirely, go to www.hp.com and get a fresh edition of the print manager..sometimes that file gets corrupted..

I have HP Officejet 6500 connected via USB to office desktop. I also need print from vista laptops on the same wireless network as the desktop. How do you do it ?

Hi, I just completed this same query this week.

to set up my remote network i followed promts from windows and then had to run my windows xp startup disc on my vista laptop.

After that was complete i had to install the hp printer setup cd onto my vista laptop and connect the hp printer to my router using the ethernet cable. I followed the prompts on the vista as the cd continued to install. then at the end of it all it showed i had correctly installed the printer via wireless and asked me to do a practice print which i did and all seems fine.

I can now print from my vista laptop and my windows xp desktop. I hope this helps

My computer won't recognize (wirelessly) to my HP Deskjet

I'm sure you've tried installing the software with the printer detached...but if you haven't, that's the first thing. Another thing that's really common is that Vista may want to install its own drivers and they may not be compatible. Go into device manager (start-menu, right click on "computer", go to properties). Click on the hardware tab and let's get into device manager from there. Look for a yellow symbol with a ! in it. You can update drivers from there, navigating to the disk that you installed from...you'll likely see something that says "drivers" and either Vista or XP (If there's no Vista, try XP drivers anyway. Hope that works...

Can no longer fax or scan

got to control panel and uninstall all the applications and drivers related to your printer in the machine running vista. Then place the printer installation CD came with your printer in the CD drive. Now just connect your printer to machine and switch it on. Vista should display new Hardware connected or any other sound alert acknowledging that printer is connected to your machine. If it prompts for driver installation, select it to search for drivers automatically. Before that make sure that your printer installation cd is in drive. Vista will automatically search for the drivers and installs it. If it's not, then the cd came with your printer may not have drivers for vista. go to HP website and download driver for vista and install it.

I change my computer XP for vista hp. My printer hp Deskjet F340 is not useful anymore. What can I do to fix it? Thank you

there is nothing you can do because vista has known compatability issues with HP printers and other hardware, you could go to the HP support website and look to see if any vista drivers have been released for your model, if not, you either have downgrade to XP or buy a new printer that works with vista
