My Toshiba px1394u-3g50 external hard drive is not working, light flashing and not recognised
I've switched on my external hard drive and noticed it was not recognised by my laptop. when I looked at the external drive I noticed the LED light is blinking instead of remaining blue... HELP!
I have tried on another laptop and the same is happening, I have another external drive exactly the same connected to my tv downstairs and I have tried that on this laptop with no problems. also when I try faulty drive on the set up downstairs I get the same result.I have tried on another laptop and the same is happening, I have another external drive exactly the same connected to my tv downstairs and I have tried that on this laptop with no problems. also when I try faulty drive on the set up downstairs I get the same result.
Hi I am having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution? I have connected it to two laptops via all the USB ports and tried two different cables and none of these have worked. Try connecting the hard drive to some other laptop and see if its getting recognized. Issue could be either with the hard drive itself of it could be with the usb port which you are using to connect the hard drive to your laptop.

My ministation was doing the same, beeping and flashing green light after a light drop on the floor. Soo... I took my ministation usb drive out of the plastic enclosure and smacked it on the table a few times. Plugged it in and it spun back up!! Now my computer recognizes it and everythings working smooth! I assume something with the drive became jammed and the couple smacks loosened the drive head.. Anyway, if all else fails... beat it!
This problem occurs when the external drive is removed from the computer before the host computer has finished writing to the drive. This can cause the drive to fail and require formatting. When using a plug in drive you need to allow the system write to complete before removing it. This goes for Flash memory sticks/cards and hard drives.Try restarting the computer with the external drive plugged in and switched on, this may cause the fault to be fixed. Good luck.
Was it working before with the same computer ? Try with a PC is you can, maybe the drive was has filesystem that mac cannot see by default (like NTFS).
Try the WD USB hard drive in another computer. If you can access your data on another computer then backup your data. If the WD USB hard drive is faulty then - It is not possible to recover data from faulty hard drivesby mortals such as you and I. There are companies that can recover data from faulty and damaged hard drivesBUT they wll charge an arm and a leg for their services.
It means that your hard drive is going to crash soon. If all of your important stuff is on there and you don't have an external hard driver or flash driver, shut down the computer until you do. Once you own another hard drive, boot back up and start the backing up process. There is a fantastic free backup program available here:

One trick I've found that works is placing the hard drive in a refrigerator for 30 mins before using it. This will extend it's life by at least 15 minutes.
Good luck to you, and pleas leave me a positive rating! :)
This is likely due to power consumption, if a hub doesn't have it's own power adapter, then it is drawing bus power from your computer, and will not have enough power to drive larger devices.
sounds like you are using the wrong power supply. Check the amp output on the power plug you plug into the wall make sure its the same as the amp input of your external harddrive
