Hi, Those types of problems are usually one of two things... the cord where is enters the iron, the wires are broken. Or the thermostat has gone bad... The iron will need to be taken apart and the wiring checked witha meter to find the problem for sure...
By the look of things its no longer covered by Shark-Euro-Pro (typical) http://www.sharkclean.com/cgi-bin/livew/site.w?location=mcopy.w&mcopy=manuals&frames=no&target=main&sponsor=000001&lang=en-US i know this is not a fix for you but i shall keep a look out for a manual.
Mine does the same thing and it is fairly new. I think i will purchase another brand and put this one away for emergencies only. I no longer have the manual.
