SOURCE: Refilled Cartridge

I have a Lexmark X7170 with the same type problem. Refilled without a prob for many times. The last time I couldn't use it after refill and bought a new cartridge which is already out of ink. I refilled it and after installing it I get a message that the cartridge is missing and the alignment won't work

BUT

Icalled my ink supplier to see if they knew of an anti refill device put in by Lexmark and they said that they had not heard this.. While talking I remembered that the previously I got a message while printing that the cartridge was missing but if I clicked OK the printer printed without a problem! So maybe yoy just need to skip the alignment, ignore the messages and try to print anyway. The last one I refilled is now working .

Another possibility is that after some number of refills the cartridges just quit and you need to occasionally purchase a new one - this I heard previously from my supplier

Good Luck
BL.

I have a Lexmark x4690 and the printer keeps telling me I have an alignment problem. I say ok to doing the alignment but when the paper feeds through there is no ink on the page. Also, if I try to print...

The error could be due to the cartridges in the printer. Please follow steps below to identify and fix the problem:

1. Make sure the printer is on.

2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.

3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier. Check the encoder strip (transparent strip behind the cartridge carrier) and make sure it is not unseated from its position.

4. Close the printer cover.

5. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power outlet to reset it.

6. When the printer turns on, check for any errors. If alignment error is displayed on the screen, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance. If no error appears, reinsert one cartridge first.

7. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.

8. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.

9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge. You can also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.

If problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Error message is Alignment Problem, but the cartridges have no clear tape on them...and have been printing with these cartridges for a while. They are not empty

Try to remove the cartridges from your printer. Check the cartridge area and make sure there are no debris or obstructions in the cartridge carrier path. Close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power outlet to reset itself. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the cover and check for errors. If none, reinsert the other cartridge. Check for errors. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear. You may also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.

Lexmark Cartridge Error

Are you using a Lexmark factory new cartridge? If not then please try a Lexmark factory new cartridge.

Lexmark does not support the use of third party cartridges or refilled cartridges. Lexmark considers this to be product tampering and will void the printer's warranty if damage occurs because of the OEM cartridge.

Please don't shoot the messenger for giving you bad news. It is the truth!

Color cartridge stopped working.

Try cleaning the contacts on both the ink cartridge and the carriage with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. If that does not work, the nozzles on the color ink cartridge may be clogged with dry ink.

There is a nozzle cleaning utility in the Lexmark Solutions Center. Use that to clean the nozzles of your ink cartridges. The Lexmark Solutions Center is installed on your computer. You can find it in the Windows Start Menu under "All Programs" in a folder marked "Lexmark".

If your printer has been sitting without use for more than a few weeks, the nozzles may be too clogged with dry ink to clean by conventional means.

It nothing works, replace the color ink cartridge.
