SOURCE: Internet speed is very slow with NET GEAR WGR614 router

MTU Adjustment

1. Access the web-based utility of the router.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

2. Adjust the MTU setting.

a. Click on the WAN Setup under Advanced tab.
b. Lower down the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1358 or 1300.
c. Click on the Apply button.

Note: You may verify from your ISP the recommended MTU size you can use.

SOURCE: My Linksys wrt300n wireless N router is slow

You have WRT300N router. If it is very old model then upgrade the firmware of the router. and try changing the wireless channel on the router.
Firmware is the software of the router.
Download the latest firmware of the router. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the firmware of the router.
Open the set up page of the router and upgrade the firmware of the router. Once you upgrade the firmware of the router, reset the router.
On the router you will find a small reset button, hold it down for 30 seconds. release it. wait for 1 minute. Now unplug the power to the router and plug it back in.
Now you will need to reconfigure the router according to the Internet service provider.

How come when im doing lots of school work on my computer or laptop or any other device why does it lagg?

If it only lags at home, then I would say your internet is slow.

If it lags no matter where you are, then you need to run some maintenance software to clean it up. Try going to iobit.com and downloading Advanced SystemCare. It goes through and detects all sorts of problems and fixes it, for free. I've used it on hundreds of computers, and its successful a majority of the time in speeding up a computer.

Wireless slow speed

Probably the signal is too low. Click on wifi connection, it should have 3+ lines, if not, try to change place for router. Also, you can try on another wifi network to check if laptop is okay.

Slow upload speed

It is usual that the internet speed differs when connected to a modem and a router. You have many possibilities to get signal affected while connected through a router.
Anyway you can try with these basic steps to get a better connection through router,
1.) Reset the wireless router by using the power switch on it or by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
2.)Place the wireless router in an ideal location. The higher it is, the better, but don't put it near metal objects.
3.)Get as close as possible to the router with whatever device you're trying to connect.
4.)Keep the router and your connecting device away from other electronics. You should especially keep away from phones, fax machines and microwaves. etc.,
5.)Adjust the Wifi antenna if it has one.
6.)Change the router's channel, especially if other wireless routers are nearby.
Following these steps would give you stable internet connection and also increased speed in connection. You can check your internet speed from www.ScanMySpeed.com before and after performing these steps.

Dynex DX-E102 PCI co/100Mb Network Adaptor provides really slow connection to my Dell Dimension 8200 PC. How can I speed it up?

speed is a function of line of sight distance so measure distance from wireless router for pc and then open that utililty on pc and see what relative speed is happening

if the signal is less than 3 bars, that is like a wireless tach

need at least 3 to 5 bars to get speed

also, your pc has a network adapter card no doubt might be that it's running a full tilt and needs an upgrade

let me know what you find

Why is my acer z5700 very slow when i go to internet?

the navigation on the internet is not restricted only by the computer's performance but the connection type also ..It very much depending on the connection speed..and if you use a slow one..it is the case.Usually the slow function is cause by the use of wireless connections from mobile phone providers..or wrong settings in wireless router..
if this is the case ..try the direct connection with the cable and make a speed test on the internet ..you should have a speed specified in the agreement with the ISP ..if this is very slow ..you should check for causes..Either the connection is damaged or you have a wrong settings somewhere ..

Hi I have a belkin F5D8233-4v3 router but the speed isn't what it should be. I have a 100/10 Mbit connection but when I have my computer connected through the router with a cable all the speed tests I try...

The speed of the wireless connection can be affected by -
1. The signal strength
2. Clashes with other wireless routers in your area broadcasting on the same channel
3. Electrical interference with the wireless signal
4. WEP & WPA Encryption of the wireless signal to prevent unauthorized access does slow the data transfer a bit.
That is why you are getting better performance using the LAN cable.

The wireless network is very slow compared to when I connect to one of the RJ45 ports in the back of the router. Every wireless connection I try crawls in speed. I have Wireless -G USB adapter in one...

Makesure your computer is not too far away from your wireless router andyou have a good signal. By placing your mouse pointer over the wirelessconnection icon, located in the bottom right corner of your taskbar, you cancheck to see if your signal strength is good. Anything less than a good signalcan cause intermittent connections.
SOLUTION:You will need to relocate your wireless router closer to your computer.
