This looks very much like my old M90... you pop out the battery, locate and unscrew the memory door, and then snap in the new memory. Then restart the laptop... if it beeps at your (this is called a beep code) then the BIOS doesn't recognize one or both of the sticks. Assuming all goes well it should prompt you and say something to the effect of 'amount of system memory has changed, press F1 to continue or F2 for bios'... go into BIOS and confirm its reading the new memory amount (2GB will say 2064). This model apparently only accepts 2 x 1GB sticks so hopefully you didn't order 2GB sticks... unless there's a BIOS update you can install the mobo won't recognize memory sticks greater than 1GB. Good luck.

SOURCE: How do I install upgraded memory sticks?

Usually, you just remove a panel from the bottom of your laptop and there should be a couple of slots. all you then do is gently but firmly push you memory into the slot and when do,replace the panel and turn the computer on and all should be done

Dell computer.5 yrs.old. Very, very, slow. What can be done? Have dial up internet service. Also, what does memory upgrade mean?

Hi,

There's nothing you can do about your internet speed, dial up is dial up and is known to be slow. If you want fast internet then you would need broadband.

A memory upgrade would speed up the overall performance of the PC. For example: the computer may take 5 minutes to fully boot up and programs taking time to launch. This would not fully resolve but help it to be more responsive.

A memory upgrade is always recommended by me. I expect that your computer can be probably maxed out to 2GB of memory.

Dear Sir,

If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.

Montior in Sleep mode

Take out the newly installed memory chip... If your sure its compatable with the motherboard, reseat it correctly into it's slot and fire up the computer. OR try rebooting with just the old memory installed. Monitor blackouts happen when the incorrect Memory is installed OR when the Memory is not seated properly.
stop chasing video and monitor problems...... :)

Question

First, you will not be able to upgrade the video card on your laptop, since video cards for laptops are specifically designed to fit onto the motherboard and the design of the laptops body.

Secondly, sound cards as well are also deisgined that way, some sound cards on laptops are built in to the mother board and higher end sound card for laptops are specifically designed to fit onto the motherboard and the laptop's body.

Hard Drives on the other hand can be upgraded to a higher capacity but you can't add an additional Hard Drive. I have checked the specs of your laptop has 80GB IDE. You can upgrade to 120GB IDE or higher if you like. Just make sure that you purchase a 2.5" HDD (5400RPM/7200RPM speeds).

Here are examples of Hard drivers that you need for upgrade. I checked newegg.com for available laptop hard drive. You can check other online stores or other computer shops near you if you as well.

**Since you have installed Windows Vista, I suggest that you upgrade the RAM (Memory) on the laptop for smooth performance for Windows Vista. The maximum memory on your laptop is 2GB DDR SDRAM. Buyin RAM for laptops are a little but tricky so you can just go to the link below for specific memory upgrade for your laptop (I suggest that you purchase 2 pcs of 1GB since your system can accomodate up to 2GB).

Link for RAM (Memory) :

**If you decied to upgrade the Hard Drive, you can still use you old Hard Drive as an USB external Hard drive for storage purposes. You will just have to purchase a 2.5" External Hard Drive Enclosure. Click on the link below for the example of the product :

I want to know if I can upgrade the harddrive and memory

Depending on the memory you already have you can install upto a maximum of 1GB 266MHZ DDR, and cannot see any reason for not being able to upgrade your hardrive for a bigger one, but be aware that the Operating system backup will probably be on a seperate partition on your current hardrive, unless you got an installation cd with your laptop.
