Tonearm lift is probably a deteriorated belt. Google it, it's pretty common. The platter spinning might be due to a bad control board. You'll probably have to go to a repair shop to diagnose it.

The anti-skating control adds an outward pull to the arm to compensate for the inward pull exerted on the arm when a record is being played.
Setting the anti-skating control to "0" should virtually eliminate the drift you mention when the arm is in neutral balance. Also make sure that the whole unit is level as this may also affect the arm's tendency to drift.
Don't try and force anything that won't move. Try this. With the power unplugged, place the tonearm over the record, if it will move freely, while rotating the platter by hand. Move the tonearm slowly over the surface of the platter until the end. Continue turning the platter by hand and see if the tonearm picks up and returns to the rest. See if that fixes your issue. Hi, at the base of the tonearm (left side) you will will find a rubber grommet or hole. Insert flat blade screw driver. Adjust until tonearm is lifting at end of record. Cheers john.
how do you know theres power to the unit if theirs no strobe light pitch adjuster light & the platter doesn't spin? the power comes in & to the transformer first, then through the strobe switch, the transformer is what blows when you short the target light out.....i've seen this many a time when people try & change the target lights to blue neon.
If you remove the rubber pad from the top of the platter then you should be able to lift the platter off the servo drives' center shaft,
from memory the unit is not attached just held on by gravity,if the servo magnet is gone the take it in for a service and pay the man for his time,
My first problem on my 1200s was a pitch control issue and easy to fix, with a little cash, never use second hand parts unless you know what you are doing because when they fail on you while playing to a packed dance floor then youll get more of a supprise than you barginned for,
Define what isn't working. Is it dead (no motor, lights, anything)?
Or is there just no sound. The output of the cartridge is independent of any power. A basic test to see if it's alive is to lift the tonearm, select the Phono on your electronics, TURN THE VOLUME WAY DOWN TO JUST A SKOOTCH OFF OF SILENCE, place the tonearm somewhere over the platter and lightly brush the stylus (BACK TO FRONT) with your finger tip. You'll hear objectionable noise from both channels if the conenctions are all intact.
You will need to check your belt for wear. Lift felt on platter and check belt tension. It may need replacing. To replace, simply lift platter section of the unit, taking note of the belt position. replace and your problem will be solved
try gently pushing the tone arm (actually the piece of plastic holding the tone arm) over to the right a little. works for me, but it still gets stuck often
