LED8003 it appears to have no power so i assumed that is the best place to start researching. i came accross the service manual online and saw that this model was sold with a seperate tuner/receiver device, which makes me wonder if (1. does this tv need that device to even be able to power on?) (2. what is the JVC part number of that device)

There might be some features that the universal remotes aren't able to do. To perform the convergence alignment you should have the original remote.
Do you have the user manual or service manual?
The service manual will explain this process better.

This is sometimes more frequent in homes where CFL replacement lamps are in use. The way they work can sometimes cause interference with some remotes, and can confuse the TV as well.
