Hi had a similar problem with a GPS. I had to give it in for service. As it turned out, the power inverter board had to be changed. The cost of the repair was about 1/2 the price of a new one.
My GPS was cutting in and out at times. I finaly died and would not start at all.
Install the Garmin City Navigator Cd to your pc and then connect ur garmin to ur pc with the USB cable. You might have to unlock the maps with information provided with ur garmin like ur unit ID and ur unlock code. Another possiblity is that ur memory card is gotten corrupted so try installing it on a different micro sd card. Let us know if u have any luck.
Sounds like your battery died and there's no juice to it. When the battery is low, the unit shuts itself off and has a hard time starting up. If possible, try plugging in your unit with a USB cable from the computer and leave the computer on for a few hours and see if that doesn't solve the problem. When in the car, sometimes the cigarette lighter socket comes loose.
Regarding your i3, the USB drivers must be loaded BEFORE you connect your garmin. If you do not have your USB drivers, you can download them from:
The Garmin C340 comes preloaded with maps while the I3 require that the maps be installed onto a micro sd card.
You can place the micro SD card into a SD adapter and use a regular card reader to download your maps. When the software ask for 'Device' to download to use the drop down arrow and find your drive letter associated with the card reader. Using a card reader will be much faster since the it is ubs 2.0 vs ubs 1.1
You could also go to Garmin website and download and install the USB drivers, see link below.
A way around this is to insert the SD Card into the computer (SD Card reader), point the directory to the card and install the maps like that. I had to do that the first time I bought my unit because I couldn't figure it out and got frustrated. So I thought of this easy work-around.
I had this problem and the solution was to get a PCI USB card for my computer. My computer's motherboard didn't properly use USB and the Garmin GPS could never talk to the computer.
You can get a PCI USB card cheaply at nearly any good computer / electronics store, or even on Ebay. Once installed, just plug the USB cable into the socket on the PCI card and try the GPS again.
