It simply sounds like the game boy is dead. That generation of Gameboy is very much out of date and could easily be found on ebay (or in gamestop) for cheap. If you don't want to buy a new one, Id suggest contacting Nintendo customer service. I dont think they could fix it for you, but could have some helpful suggestions.

I worked at a Gamestop for 3 years, and that was a common problem among GBC systems. We never got answers either and they ended up just being field destroy.

My gameboy's screen has dark stripes in it fixable or should i get a second hand/refurbished one?

It sound like the color or the screen parts inside of the game boy color are not working properly so it would just be easier to buy a new one vs fixing the current one. The current one could be fixed but it might not be an easy fix and the fix might be complicated then.

My gameboy startup screen is the startup screen for the gameboy color

That's normal. The gba will play all three generations of game boy games. The start up screen that comes up is that of whichever cartridge you are putting in.

Gameboy color screen to dark

Well technically there is no back light for gameboy colour but gameboy advance SP
has a built in light to it then. You can play gameboy color and original gameboy
games on an sp then.

The screen is not very bright. What can I do?

The gameboy color does not have a backlight -- it's not supposed to be very bright. You have to play under a bright light or get a light attachment for your gameboy color.

Game boy color game won't play

You cant fix the cartrige as you will break it
overall its time to let go of the game boy color games try getting a DS its much better but back to your problem... IT IS NOT THE CARTRIGE!! your game boy will not accept the cartrige because of the mechanics in it deteriorating

It is a pokemon trading card game nintendo gameboy video game.

The little golden connector thingies (sorry I forget what they're called) on the bottom of your cartridge are either dirty or damaged.
Try tilting the cartridge at a slight angle while it's in the Gameboy, either forward, back, or to either side.
Sometimes it puts pressure on the right spot to make it work.
Other than that, try cleaning the surface of them.
