Don't worry. There is a huge problem occuring right across the board at this very moment with the PSN Network. Some consoles are not synching properly due to an internal clock error and causing problems exactly like you describe. It is expected to be resolved soon by Sony.

This sometimes happens when the software becomes corrupt on the PS3. What I would do is back up all your game saves to a USB memory stick or memory card and then do the following to restore the PS3 software :
Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby mode (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later, then beep once more and turn off. Release the power button.
Step 3. Press and hold the power button again. It will beep once when you press it, again 5 seconds later and then there will be 2 quick beeps together. Release the power button when you hear these 2 beeps.
Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to connect a controller via USB and press the PS button. Do this and then continue to the next step
Step 5. A menu will load. Select option 5, "Restore PS3 system". Accept anything you need to and wait for the PS3 to restart.

After this procedure, put all your backed up save games back on the PS3 and try signing in again.

This should cure your problem

Hi the problem is not with your password so dont change any settings ok the problem is not your end everybody else is having the same problem, sony are having some down time at the minute to update their servers and software so just bare with them for a couple of hours and it will be back on shortly.
dont try changing any settings as the problem is their end not yours

let me know if you need further assistance or if it still not working in a couple of hours.

their are loads of people asking the same question in the last hour so you are not the only one, you could try going to the sony ps3 web site and check on their for any down time,

i have just got through to sony and they are doing maintenance on the network so just bare with them and it should be back on shortly ok

i just found out the network is down for 12 hours some lucky people may sign in but will soon be cut off its down till 23:30pm GMT time as im in UK time here is now 19:28 so their is another 4 hours left of down time
