My xbox 360 seems to struggle playing ordinary dvds. It makes a whirring sound (louder than usual for games) and says it is trying to read disc and stutters a lot, even though the dvd is new and has no mark whatsoever. Games seem to be ok though.
The discs are good, i think there is a problem with the 360 which is what im trying to establish so i can sort it. its a strange problem, only happens on some dvds but enough to be really annoying. The sound it makes when the disc is in doesnt sound healthy either. It seems your laser isn't reading the second layer on the games. Regular DVDs have only one layer of information, Xbox 360 games are "Dual Layered" meaning twice as much information in the same area. I would recommend buying a replacement laser from eBay and installing it yourself (as you already know how to take the Xbox apart)
its the disk drive xbox will fix for 100 dollars this just happend to me finally i called them and they told me its the disk drive and soon it wont read dvds either
If your xbox box it's new I would take it back and get another one, becase you do probable have problems with your dvd drive and it will keep scratching the games. the laser on the drive doesn't work as hard when playing a music cd than when it plays a game or a dvd.
If you don't want to take it back, then play a couple dvds and if it reads then fine then you could try again. it shiudn't take more than ten second to read a game so if its taking longer just get it out.
Hi you have to buy a HD DVD player add on for your 360 to play HD DVDs if you go to game or gamestation you will get one there very cheap as HD DVDs are no longer released
it sounds like you play it a lot you need to clean the Len's if your not very good at taking any thing a part then don't do it get your self a cleaning disk from any QD, map-land, pound land, its very cheap it might need doing 4/5 time before you play any games OK try it what do you have to lose.
