CRT Rear-Projection Red Vertical Alignment

The red and blue projectors are misaligned, and, while the blue will let me move it horizontally and vertically, the red will only move horizontally. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

You may have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos.

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergenCRT Rear-Projection Red Vertical Alignment - 2c07611.pnge bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

The picture is warped red & blues distorted

Your Convergence ICs have failed. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless. They will be right next to each other.

Picture is OK, but colors are off and there is a blue star background that shows on dark colors.

Hello, With most rear projections there is usually an alignment to do with the set up with your TV. This is so the red, blue and green projectors align together to give the correct colouring. This sounds to me what may be causing the outlining of the blue. This can also make it seem off colour. Look in the set up menu of the tv and see if you can find this alignment feature. Usually a cross will appear and you move a blue, red, and green cross with the arrows on your remote to align over the original white one. If this does not work, it may also mean that one of your projectors, that is the red, blue or green one may be failing causing the off colouring. Hopefully this alignment may fix it for you.

Where are the convergence chips located on my 60PP9202 for the red

There are 2 Convergence Chips: 1 for Horizontal (it includes Red, Green and Blue Convergence channels) and 1 for Vertical (it includes Red, Green and Blue Convergence channels). Horizontal Convergence Chip is 7044 and Vertical convergence Chip is 7045 (both STK392-120). They are fixed in same "big" Heat Sink, with a 2 metal black clips, from Video Inputs board side.

Cannot adjust red multi point

Symptom:
Unit appears to have poor convergence due to:
1. cross hatch appears tilted
2. one color (or more) being larger than the others.

Cause:
The yoke or yokes may have:
(1) rotated slightly or
(2) slipped down during transport.

Resolution:
Loosen a yoke and lower to inspect the tape. If black tape is present remove it from under all yokes (white tape or no tape is OK). Slide yoke or yokes up tight against the CRT and tighten to prevent slipping or rotation. Precede with
alignments and or convergence as necessary.

Red and blue convergence wont line up. What should i do.

convergance can be tricky and you should follow a manufacturers proceedure from a manual.

most specificaly start with the green H and V Linearity and center , then the Red and Blue

Projection TV's and Component Video RGB have their Horizontal and Vertical Sync signals on the Green Component..

There may be other reasons for their specific order of operations within a calabration proceedure such as your 'RGB convergance alignment'

No horizontal red convergence control

Probably the red convergence output IC has failed. The chip is basically a stereo amplifier that serves as a horizontal amplifier and a vertical amplifier. I suspect the vertical part has failed and is not uncommon. Should be generic STK392-150's or maybe STK392-110/120 I believe. By the way when the line moves up and down that means the vertical is working when it moves side to side the horizontal is working.

Distorted Color and geometry of Picture

I've posted this solution several times but here goes. Try setting up the convergence through the menu by accessing the convergence setup menu. If this fails to work you have a bad digital convergence box and need a tech to replace it. About $60 to $100 fix.
