A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.). If that doesn't help, try the steps below: You may also try to update your printer
driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/aNGYmW. Select your operating system,
download and execute the file.

SOURCE: Lexmark 2600 not printing
I recently had the same problem. Your Lexmark printer has automatically placed itself on pause. You must go to the control panel and unpause it from there. Its' simple, just go to control panel and select printer and faxes. Select your Lexmark printer and right click it. Then select resume from the drop down menu. Your printer is now unpaused and ready to print!

Hi MikeC,
Most of the time this is due to the black cartridge being out of ink. The Lexmark uses all the colors to create black when the black ink cartridge runs out, but won't let you print black because it is essentially saving ink.
Hope that's the reason and it isn't the printer failing. Good luck! :)
Testimonial: "I have discovered that the Black cart is showing up as grey with a question mark on it, (in the Lexmark Service Centre)instead of showing the level."
SOURCE: Lexmark 2600 scanning to MAC-no can do
Edward, I have this same problem. Were you able to solve it? Anyone, can you help? I have installed the drivers. When I connect the printer to my Mac, it launches ImageCapture and previews the scan fine. But I am unable to get the "scan" button to become active, adn there is no place to save the scan. If I click "save pdf to iphoto" it saves a pdf of the entire screen, rather than just the photo. Appears not to be Mac compatible for scanning purposes. Thank you for your help.
