Are you handy with a soldering iron? If not, get an electronics tech to do it for you.It should not be hard to replace.

Else, find an electronic parts store and look for a similar plug. Make sure the pins are exactly the same layout as the original. Remove the old one, keeping in mind not to let the iron in contact with the board for too long, otherwise you might destroy the copper lines in the board.

I'm chasing a power problem on a Dell C640 motherboard (model PP01L) and stupidly removed the component FL1 without noting it's orientation. Does anyone have a board handy, or have a photo, or circuit diagram to answer my question ?

If your motherboard traces are damaged, I would highly recommend replace the board. This model laptop can have considerably high current running through that jack and traces. if anything is weak it will burn through.

Or take it to a electronics specialist.

you have a no post-no power issue... try to reseat the memory modules and try to turn the computer on with just one memory module first. if it doesn't power on, remove it and try the other one. if it still doesn't power on, motherboard needs replacement.

Dell D600 laptop

If you've tested the power supply and battery, then the only thing left is a motherboard component. The problem will either be with the DC jack or the power management system. First check to see if the jack is loose or noticeably broken. If not, then it's going to be the power management chip. The pm chip controls and regulates the power input, switching from AC to battery, and the charging. With the pm chip, the motherboard will need to be replaced.
