unplug the unit then clean the printer and all drum units and etc with compressed air. Replace the drums and replug should solve the problem.

SOURCE: What is 173:fatal error on my oki c5700?

1. Turn machine on while pushing and holding the TWO up/down menu buttons at same time.
2. Menu window will show "OKI USER"
3. Scroll to " Engine Dialog Mode" is indicated. Push Enter button.
4. "Diagnostic Mode xx.xx.xx S-Mode is indicated.
5. Scroll to "NV-Ram initial" is indicated. Push ENTER.
6. Window shows "NV-Ram- Initial Table 1".
7. Push ONLINE and ENTER Buttons simultaneously and HOLD for 10 seconds after you see "Executing Reset" appear in menu window.
8. Restart printer.

I guess the real quesiton is whether you are prepared to fix your own printer. This error is a fuser error and the Internal part - Fuser will need to be replaced. This is best preformed by a qualified technician and keep in mind that there may be some smaller components that may need to be replaced as well as the fuser. This error indicates that the Image Drum Up/Down Process is not working properly. The errors are as follows:

Falal error 173 on oki c5650 after changing fuser unit

Cause:
This error indicates that the Image Drum Up/Down Process is not working properly.

The errors are as follows:
