After removal of set screw on handle of peerless 8700 shower control, I still cannot remove the handle. Any ideas?
Cartridge on Peerless 8700 shower control is leaking. I cannot remove the handle after removing set screw. Did not want to force, but I cannot access the cartridge without removing the handle. Any ideas?

hi there:) your problem is caused by the cartridge inside the valve body. could be one of 3 things...1)the cartridge is damaged 2)hard water build up 3)foreign matter. it is not to difficult to replace it yourself: first turn off the water then find the set screw, which holds the handle in place, usually located at the base of the handle and remove it. (look closely/carefully cause it's hiding) then remove the escutcheon ring and the trim sleeve to expose the "bonnet" (lock ring) and remove it. (ritey titey lefty loosey) now you can remove the cartridge and inspect it for debris/damage. if you need a new one just take it w/you to any plumbing supply including home depot and/or lowes and they will help you find it. here is the installation/owners manual from peerless: http://peerless-faucet.com/customer-support/find-repair-parts/documentation/P8760.html hope this helps but if you need anything else just ask:)
If you have enough of a stem left, just file a flat spot on the stem where you want the set screw to stay. You might have to buy a longer set screw though. Take the old one with you and try to find a stainless one - any hardware or home-improvement store will carry them.
If you soldered the faucet without removing the cartrige you may have damaged it. they have to be removed before soldering. if not, too much solder while soldering may plug port.
if u have the paperwork for the unit--in it will explain how to adjust the anti scold settings single handle units are shipped in cold setting u have to adjust the hot -- remove handle and on shaft will see blue and red clips adjust the red till hot water is to ur liking replace handle
first turn off water to house or bathroom, you will need Hex key set (Allen Wrench Set) and a pair of channel locks and a Phillip and Flat head screw driver, place something over the drain line so that no parts fall down drain then you will notice under the handle you will see either a hole or a small piece of plastic that that you can pluck out with a flathead screw driver thats where you will find the allen key screw its very small, once you remove that you can remove the front have of the handle wiggle it off, then take your channel locks and remove the thin nut that holds the big round silver part down, you will then remove the stem that the handle was attached to You can then pull out the divertor and take it with you to home depotand either replace the whole thing under $20 or find the parts under $10
the kit to rebuild the peerless diverter is very common. take the cartridge to any hardware store and ask the plumbing clerk to assist you in getting the correct kit. good luck
